Krab - Did you ask him when Ms. Harberson would be back? If she's your rep, she might know your app better. The person on the phone could have just been talking in general, just based on your test scores, for example.

No, I did not ask when Ms. Harberson would be returning. In fact, he made it sound like she was only out of the office for the afternoon (on a lunch break or something). I had no idea she was out because of maternity leave.

I have a good feeling that the man had a good idea of what was going on in my application, but as you mention, he only knew of my academic side and the ECs I listed--not necessarily my essays or anything like that.

Ms Harberson still hasn't replied to my email and it's been 2 weeks now. I am really worried.

chlor, she's not gonna be around for a while, try to email her back a month from now

are we supposed to e-mail them???? i thought we wait for them to contact us once our application is sent???
btw. im from canada

just curious. what are you guys discussing with your regional reps?

For those of you applying RD, it might be a good idea to touch base with your rep once in awhile, either by email or phone, just to show your strong interest in Penn. Google the interview with Dean Stetson - he encouraged that as a way to show strong interest. Along the way, it doesn't hurt to update if you have new awards, honors or activities to report.

Some of the people on here were talking about getting in touch as a result of an ED deferral, though.

Does anyone have Jonathan S. Katzenbach as their regional rep / been in contact with him?

I've been transferred to my reg. rep (Mr. Katzenbach) from the general admissions office twice. Both times, I have spoken with a woman and the one time I emailed Mr. Katzenbach, I never got a response. I wanted to write a letter to my reg. rep about my job, but now I dont know who I should address in my salutation :(

Why are the regions kind of weird? I have Molly Clark because I'm in South Jersey, but she also has Iowa and Nebraska, etc.?

peachykween -
The regions are designed that way so that each regional director has approximately the same amount of applicants. In your ase, she probably receives a lot of applicants from South Jersey, but very few applicants from both Iowa and Nebraska.
Run4fun88 -
I talked to my regional director about why I was deferred and what I could do to turn the deferral into an acceptance and we also spoke about what has changed about my application since I submitted it in October, which for me is a lot.

Darn, I was on a fleeting hope that perhaps, along with Iowa and Nebraska, South Jersey was a target area :)

I contacted my reg rep and he called me back and talked only 5 minutes with me...omg, when I asked for reason of deferral, he kept saying of my application was good but tough competition this year and, when I asked his opinion for better chance, he just told me to send in my mid-report by Feb......
omg......does this really help????? I am tired..............really ....

What should I do?

should i email them first or just call them directly?

It does not really matter if you call or email. I have heard of people doing either. I called because that was completely comfortable for me, but if you would prefer it to be a little more formal, you can email them first and then set up a time to talk over the phone, you can probably just communicate online if you want.

I wrote my regional rep a letter and am planning to deliver it when I visit Penn for a tour on Monday.

does anyone know ms. guzman’s email?
