Regional schools (Not T-14)

Mmmkay, so, by browsing it seems I generally get a wide variance in opinion (which I obviously expect here too), but I thought I would ask about my personal (though hypothetical) situation.

So, I'm only a sophomore, so law school is a bit of a way off. But I do want to ask about my possible plans, because it really isn't far enough (especially since I am studying abroad next year).

I really have never been interested in going to the really top top schools. I also have less than zero interest in working in New York/Chicago/LA. I am from Wisconsin, I love Wisconsin, I want to work in Wisconsin. And so I've always wanted to go to University of Wisconsin. (I would also apply to University of Minnesota, because of the reciprocal tuition.) It offers the lowest tuition (as I would receive in-state tuition), and you don't have to take the bar exam, which is nice. I ask this because it seems many, many failure stories, or people who are T-14 or die, seem to be interested in the bigger markets.

So, for someone who wants to live and work in Wisconsin, would UW-Madison be a good choice?

(Yes, I am aware, market is bad, blah blah blah, this is part of why I want to go with the cheapest option.)

If that’s really what you want, then don’t listen to the “Yale or Fail” crowd on here.

Yes, going to UW-Madison is a good option if you are exclusively interested in working in Wisconsin.

1) Even if you don’t have to take the bar exam, any decent legal job in Wisconsin will require you to take it.

2) To practice in Wisconsin from a Wisconsin law school, you’ll still need to be at the top of your class. Go to the law school if you get a full scholarship at it, but otherwise aim for the T14. With solid connections to the market, you should be able to get a good job even if your grades are not great.

Why would anyone require you to take the bar exam if you can be admitted without it? I also really doubt you need to be in the top of your class at UW to get a job at a small Wisconsin firm.

It all depends on whether you’d be satisfied by Wisconsin ****law. Most of this board wouldn’t be.
