Register for Housing ASAP at USC

<p>For all students and parents of students who may be finding out about USC admission soon:</p>

<p>USC has a fairly detailed housing preference selection process. Students can indicate up to 5 location and room type preferences, as well as enter information intended to help select a compatible roommate. Since my daughter's acceptance at USC was the first time our family has gone through the process, I don't know how typical USC is in this regard. All I can say is that is light years ahead of what I deal with back in the Dark Ages That said, there are some key points:</p>

<p>1) A student can register with the USC housing office as soon as he or she is accepted. A USC student number is required, and that should arrive with the acceptance. </p>

<p>2) Making a housing preference is non-binding. It does not obligate a student to attend USC.</p>

<p>3) There is a $45 fee that I believe is non-refundable.</p>

<p>4) Housing preferences are distributed based on the order students register with the Housing Office. In other words, first come, first served. </p>

<p>Bottom line: If a student thinks there is a chance he or she will attend USC, it makes sense to register ASAP. I am told that some of the residence halls fill up quickly.</p>

<p>Glad it helped. I saw an older thread comparing the different dorms at USC, for what that is worth, so some of the info may be here on CC. I expect current students would be the best resource on the topic of which dorm.</p>

<p>I agree! Do housing paperwork ASAP. My “D” thought I was crazy and she procrastinated and did not get in her top choices.</p>

<p>I hope I’m not screwed over for my housing choice since I won’t be getting my packet until tomorrow or Friday if I’m accepted…</p>

<p>BigKev, the majority of people don’t come on cc and don’t know to register ASAP. Although it feels like the world is here, it’s really just the very smart people. :slight_smile: Many students don’t even know they can register for housing before they commit to enroll. And that’s May 1!!! Do don’t worry - you’ll be fine!</p>
