What is the process for signing up for spring classes? Is it like the football tickets where everyone is online at the same time and those in the know get first dibs and other kids get shut out?

If it is the type of situation where you must be online at a specific time, can someone please let me know the protocol of how to best get the desired classes and times?

Sorry also if anyone knows the dates/times that registration opens up that would be appreciated as well. My son is a freshman but he had 29 credit hours transferred so after his 12 he is earning this semester that may get him to sophomore status if that makes a difference.

I will double-check this but I believe that my freshman d rec’d an email sometime last week with her registration date. I’m not sure if a time was given or just the date…but she told me she is registering a day early because of transfer credits (she has 38 credits that transferred…actually waiting for 3 more to transfer, but the 38 did give her sophomore status). I am pretty sure she said the registration is sometime in November though.

I’m sorry…they do not get an email…it is actually posted somewhere on their self-service website. My d says she found it on the website and the date and an exact time was given. I was wrong about the 18th…Apparently it is the week before.

Certainly your son should be able to access this information on campus? Ask his RM? Email his advisor? My dd is a freshman and she told me that she met with her advisor last week about classes for the spring so I am sure this is happening now on campus. I did not ask her how she knew to make an appointment. She also “will register with sophomores” because of AP classes and is also in Honors - so she feels pretty confident she will get most of what she wants??? I am letting her handle it.

Definitely check in SSC for registration time but I think you should have gotten email from your major department about sign up for advisement. Some departments make appointments online (the goal is for all colleges to do this in future) but some still have signups on doors. My D registered yesterday (has senior hours) and was advised right after fall break for honors (which is usually a little early since honors students have to also get advised in their major) and last week in her major.

OP, Have son contact his major department if he can’t find email with details about advisement. Slots for registration are given by hours earned including current semester, so he should get a sophomore time. Have him go online to courses now and start making list of courses he might want to take. Depending on his major and what he needs, he may still have problems getting in a certain section or class. If so, just remember you can drop and add all the way to start of class. Some classes may open up if students who sign up don’t pass a pre-requisite class. Even for spring they may open new sections (did last year for a math class D was taking - split into 2 sections to add more seats because of interest although that doesn’t always happen).

I just got an email saying my registration time.

They do it based on different criteria. Disabled students and student athletes are the first to register if I can recall correctly. And then they divide it up based on major and class. Having enough credits to be a sophomore does help out some. They also used to do it based on GPA, but I think they don’t anymore since they moved to the SSC system. At least, that’s what a dean told me last spring.
