I need some advice on registration. Since I didn't go to CalSO (I was out of the country at the time), I now have to complete phase I registration through telebears online.

Pretty much, I can either choose to register for phys 7A first, or math 53. I know I'm recommended to register for math first, since it's required for my major (chem), but as of now there are more open spots in math than phys, and I figure since most people registered for math already in phase I, I should be relatively safe.

However, my discussion period options are limited for math (I can only attend from noon to one, MWF), and there are only about 20ish seats in discussion left for that time slot.

But as I still haven't received my AP test scores, I want to see if I can actually test out of the entire first year of math. If I can't, then I'd have to change my math class enrollment anyway.

Is it a good idea to register for phys 7A first, and wait until phase II to register for my math course?

I had the same question.

I originally registered for chem1a and physics7a, since those two had the least number of spaces, but then I changed it to chem1a and math 53 because I felt like math was more important and I had to take it first semester, whereas I could've taken either chem or physics second semester

I also thought most people would've signed up for math 53 in phase I, but then I realized AP scores aren't out yet and there are probably kids who don't know if they received 5s and are simply waiting for their scores, so they'd sign up during phase II.

If math were more important for your major, you might want to sign up for math first just to make sure you have a spot.

what I heard from my CalSO counsilor was that Math department will provide a new class in phase 2, so that everyone will get Math class. That's why he advised me to sign up for Math in phase 2, rather than phase 1

yeah but what about all the discussions? are they opening up more spaces for discussion times too?

Yes, and WHICH math class will the math department be providing? Because I don't want to get stuck in the weeder 1B class if I'm actually qualified for 53.

Although I DID hear from my counselor that the math department is usually pretty good about getting College of Chem people in...I hope so.
