I know we register for classes on the 4th day of orientation, but how is it done, do we bring laptops and do it off the site or do we all go in some building and sit down at computers or what?

If you have a laptop, you can do it in your dorm room. They recommend you go to the computer lab in the FAC, but I found out afterward last year that you could have done it online, and avoid all the hassle(which it is). Orientation itself was just a big pain in the ass. If I could have just register at one time, and just not go to orientation, I would have been way happier. There were a few fun events, but for the most part it was a waste of time.

so do most people go to the lab or do it from their laptop? why specif. was it a hassle?

and I heard that during orientation most people dont get the classes they want/need and end up fixing it later during add/drop?

Do we have to go to orientation? If not when can we start registering for classes? It only says orientation is recommended online.

Well my classes were pretty large, so I didn't have to do any add/drop. Everyone I talked to did the lab(granted everyone I talked to was mostly Electrical Engineering like me). I was 70th in line and I got there an hour early still, to give you an idea on how long the wait. The only reason not to do it on a laptop, is just the chance your internet might go out.

It all depends on your major as far as the add/drop stuff, on what classes you need.

What foxshox says is true, it is less of a hassle to do it somewhere else because of the logjam at the lab. My son did it at some friends' (upperclassmen) apartment using his laptop. They walked him through it and advised what classes to try to get. What he didnt' get, he picked up during the drop/add. Just be sure to register a full load, even if it's not exactly the schedule you want.
