So I received plenty of financial aid from UC Berkeley... I was wondering, does this cover my registration fee of around $6,000 something? And how do I go about paying for this, or getting my financial aid to cover it? I'm lost about the whole situation.

Apparently, everything from MyFinAid will carry over to CARS, or something like that… but I’m not sure when it happens

Mmhm, mine hasn’t done so thus far… I read somewhere that I have to be enrolled in the right about of units. Right now, I signed up for four classes for a total of 16 units; however, I’m waitlistsed for one of those classes so I only am enrolled for 11, and phase II won’t allow me to enroll in any more classes. Is this going to affect my financial aid covering CARS? And also, what is EFT? Do I have to make an account or is an optional?

I think EFT is optional. I’m pretty sure it’s only for refunds.

If you ever have a refund waiting for you, and you don’t have EFT, they’ll notify you, and you’ll need to go to some building to pick up the check yourself… instead of them using direct deposit.

About the need for another class… hmm not sure. The soft unit limit is 16 units… but does that include waitlisted classes? I don’t know. Otherwise, you should be able to add another class during normal daytime hours, even if your appointment is over.

you only have to sign up for 13 to ensure that you continue receiving the aid.

Right, but maybe financial aid doesn’t consider units on the waitlist.

11 units isn’t enough to be considered a full-time student

Sign up for a class that you will drop once your ‘real one’ clears - that makes you officially full time to trigger the finaid.

does it work like that though? i could’ve sworn it was that you needed 13 units by the fifth week to remain eligible/continue receiving aid, not getting 13 units before the year starts. Otherwise, there would be a crazy amount of people adding random classes

I don’t know anything about finaid rules and process. Just answering how to be full time if indeed it is a problem to be below 13 units.

For financial aid purposes, full time is 12 units. The following is straight for the financial aid website…

“You are expected to attend full time. At Berkeley that is 12 units for financial aid purposes”.

depends on your college

the minimum unit requirement for L&S is 13 units to be considered as a full time student

So does this mean that I definitely have to drop my waitlisted class in order to sign up for another class to meet the min unit requirements in order for my financial aid to cover my registration fees?

What if you were to sign up for 16 units, but drop a 4 unit course, resulting in 12 units, which is below the minimum units?

All I know is that 12 units is considered full time for financial aid purposes.

You need 13 for L/S.
@External - if you’re in L/S you need 13 units or else you risk getting your financial aid cut and possibly a talk with a counselor.
What I’m saying is this (or my experience iirc):
everyone who has FA will receive it for at least the first month. By the fifth week, you need the minimum units of your respective college (13 for L/S, 12 for CoE iirc).
Has anyone’s FA actually cashed in to CARS? Mine still says 0…

Hey if FA transfers to CARS, but then a change is made to my FA package, will the new FA update to CARS?
