Registration Mistake

A friend of mine made a mistake when registering his son for the June 2006 SAT. He listed a neighboring high school instead of his son's actual school located just down the road. As a result, his son's score report lists the incorrect high school.

Is this a problem? The scores from June 2006 have been reported to several colleges. If this is a problem--his son's date of birth and SSN correctly appear on the score report--how can it be corrected? Any advice would be appreciated.

Have the child talk to the college counselor at his HS & the problem is easily remedied. My S did the same thing & his college counselor fixed the issue very quickly, with a call on the counselor's special phone line to College Board.

Heck, my son also registered on-line with the College Board twice; once he registered properly & once he reversed his name. When son & I tried working things out with the College Board, they said he'd forever have two separate records, with test scores on each (also having to pay double fees to have both records sent to all schools he was interested in, ARGH). We went to talk with the HS college counselor who called the special counselor phone number & promptly got the College Board to merge the two records so all son's scores showed up on ONE record & we were VERY grateful.

The sooner this is taken care of, the better!

Have the student send an email to each college admissions office explaining the situation. He should then follow through in another month with a phone call to be sure the colleges have his SAT scores in his file. I don't think it will be a problem, as most colleges open applicant files based on name and home address or SSN.

Thank you so much for your prompt replies.

You can also call the College Board and they'll fix this stuff, my son bubbled the wrong birthday one year!

The son needs to call College Board. Warning: He'll be on hold a long time.

My S is stil teasing me that when I registered him, I gave him the wrong middle initial. I somehow got his confused with his brother's.

The wait is MUCH SHORTER on the counselor's phone line, which is why I'd strongly suggest you ask your college counselor to help. That is one of the best things the CC was able to do on our behalf; I kid you not!

Thanks all. My friend called CB early in morning (school hasn't started yet). Turns out they had another mistake of their doing. Just a reminder, to check the files carefully before GC sends them out
