I am an incoming freshman and my enrollment period began today. I attempted to enroll in a class (EES 103 oceanography) and at the time it said that the class was open with. However, I was unable to enroll and the message said that the class was full and that i was placed on the waitlist. On further inspection, the class remains open with 84/120 spots being filled. This means that there are 36 open seats. However, there are 25 people currently on the waitlist. My question is, why are students being placed on the waitlist even though the class still says it is open and there are 36 spots left? Also, since it is not completely full is there a good chance that i will get off the waitlist?

Enrollment can be weird. Those extra slots may be saved for upperclassmen or may become available during open enrollment (in which case you’ll instantly be enrolled cause you’re on the waitlist).

There’s a decent chance you’ll get of the wait list. Its a big class.
