I recently applied for Early Decision 2 at NYU’s Tandon School of Engineering. NYU has been a dream college for me for a long time and I love the location since it’s my home state. However, recently I’ve been looking into other colleges and am seriously regretting applying under early decision. Finances aren’t an issue, which means there really isn’t a way for me to back out of the ED agreement either if I get in. At this point, I’m pretty much relying on not getting in since my stats weren’t that high for NYU to begin with. 3.0 GPA, 1370 SAT score. My only plus is a really good supplement and a really good common app essay, and though my stats are low, others in my school have gotten in with same/slightly higher/slightly lower stats. I’m hoping for some advice on what should I do, or maybe just some words that will reboot my interest in NYU?
Call NYU and ask that your application be switched from ED2 to RD. Not a big deal if you do it now.
Can you ask NYU to convert your ED2 application to an RD application? This would be quite different from backing out of an ED2 acceptance.
Overall in your post, though, there’s little to indicate that NYU wouldn’t be a good choice for you.

If you ask now to move to RD, no harm-no foul. But do it right away.
You have many good in-state options that are less expensive. Just move the app to RD and then evaluate all your options later.
What schools did your friends got into? Definitely call them though, I believe they would be very helpful.
