Regret not applying to MIT...

My math/science scores:

GPA UW: 4.0

Math I:730
Math II: 790
Chemistry: 770

AP Calc AB: 5
AP Chemistry: 4
AP Biology: 4

I know these aren't the TOP of the world, but I think decent enough, right?

The reason I didn't apply was that I thought these weren't too good in the eyes of MIT, but I soon learned that scores aren't everything for MIT, literally. I feel horrible not applying...

AND I'm first generation

Your scores are fine, as are the scores of 80% of applicants – only ~10% or so actually get in.

I so regret it :(

If it makes you feel any better, you most likely would not of gotten in :D

I’m not exactly sure what the purpose of this thread is… Only thing we can do is say that you’ll probably end up somewhere great!

you could always try to transfer

The transfer rate is closer to 1-3%. It is certainly still possible, but if to get into a good school, applying to for MIT graduate school might be the best option.

Well, I did apply to some of the Ivies + stanford…

I think MIT would’ve been PERFECT. DAMMIT.

I read the blog about how MIT doesn’t differentiate between a 2250 and a 2400—thats crazy. I read that this week. Wish I read that when I was applying to colleges.

You sound like a smart guy. I think you’ll get into a lot of places and you’ll find somewhere you really like. Maybe it rings hollow right now with all the anxiety waiting for those letters but trust me, it’ll all work out in the end.

No point regretting anything. You’ll get in someplace nice. If you always think about regretting not applying to MIT, then it will be impossible to enjoy the place you end up

depending on the program, mit may not even better than where you might end up at, and may find it a better fit.

so … relax.

you will grow because you are learning to make hard choices … and live with the consequences … sometimes they turnout better.

If not applying to MIT is one of your biggest regrets then you must have a good life. Not the end of the world.
