All recs are good (assuming they say good things about you). :-) A past MIT prof might be able to talk about your match a bit better than someone who is unfamiliar with MIT, but the fact that he/she used to teach at MIT alone likely wouldn't carry more weight than any other rec.

We work pretty normal business hours in committee (9-5ish with a nice long break for lunch in the middle). This is to make sure that we're always "fresh." Considering we all usually work a lot more when we're not in committee, it's actually sortof nice to keep normal hours. :-) The only bummer is that we work through the weekends too...

ben - so midyear reports are not a factor in decisions? thats bad cos I jumped in my class rank and GPA a lot :\ They got it already I think on Monday

Not sure how many international students have applied this year - I don't think they've released that figure yet. As for 100 (more or less) getting accepted, that sounds about right.

Yes, I second that mercuryquad. It is great that someone from the admissions office is nice enough to spend time answering questions here outside of their regular responsibilities.

No problem guys, glad to be able to help in the process. Answering questions here is better than answering individual emails anyway, as others who may have the same questions get to see the answers...
