Regular Admission Acceptance Letters are Coming On...

"Where's my decision?

Decisions will be mailed on March 22. The only people we will email are international applicants who have been waitlisted or denied. To the rest of you, the old-fashioned mail is how you will get your decision.

Right now we are in an interesting phase of the reading process. We're down to the final six or seven hundred spots, and we are in small committees of four or five, going around the table with our files. Each application gets ten minutes; we discuss the issues, and then we vote. It can be funny how defensive we all get about our files--we each want the students from our territory to be admitted.

Does this sound scary? It's not meant to be. Human eyes are reading your applications and making decisions--that should be reassuring."

From the Uncommon Application blog.

Ten minutes to have faith in humanity...

Yikes, well this means I will learn in about 13 days
scary...

so that means we will get decisions by the 24 or 25th right?

I think I hear the collective heart palpitations

whoa that's early. awesome, but yikes!

so that means I should not hope to get an email on march 22nd ?

Yikes...that's a scary way to describe the application reading process!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

at least this will be one of the earlier letters we will be receiving, unless many of you have received likely letters. good luck all!

i'm in jersey, and if decisions are mailed on the 22nd, when do you guys think I will receive it in the mail?

lets hope i dont get an email then (international student), then tht will mean im accepted?!

Yeah, that's what i'm confused about. So, does it mean that if i get through march 22nd with no emails, i'm in?????

Tragham: I would say more or less yes, but don't take my word for it

I'm surprised that Chicago admissions has a blog...BlogSpot. I'm even more amazed that people are commenting on the entries!

I expected to hear it by early April. Guess we'll be hearing earlier.

This sounds about right. Two years ago, my D received her packet on March 27, the Saturday before April 1.

If I got in early action and sent my forms in saying that I was going over 2 months ago, when will I get all the stuff saying what dorm I'm in and my internet ID, etc? Is that not until the summer?

I'm pretty sure you get all the dorm 'stuff' in June- they send it to everyone at the same time.
Try not to read to much into how long it takes you to receive your decision. I got in ea and I didn't find out until a week after it was mailed (I live about 40 minutes from the campus).

Regarding the length of time it takes to get your admissions letter....

My son's EA letter came very late so he called the admissions office to inquire. They obviously couldn't tell him the results, but one person did point out that fat acceptances tend to come later than thin rejections since the envelope is much bigger. Sure enough....she was right. so don't sweat it if the mail takes a while to reach you.

If two years ago is any indication, they seem to stagger the mailings - sending the coastal ones a day or two before the midwest ones.

And yes, the c-net (the term used for chicago's computer network) and housing stuff come in June. When the cnet info comes, act fast if you want your favorite ID, as it is first come, first served. Chicago allows you to pick your own.

They didn't send me anything confirming that I sent the papers in saying that I was definitely coming. Should I just assume that they received it?

I want in... But one thing sux

Likely, if I don't get in Chicago, then I likely won't get into UPENN either.
