Regular Admission Decisions

It doesn't look like many CC users have submitted their apps RD, but those of us "slackers" who did: Are they almost here? I can almost feel it in the air but then again maybe that's just the Christmas Spirit..

Are what almost here?

applied RD yesterday

yeah, i submitted my RD application a while ago and was wondering if the admissions decisions were announced rolling decision style if we used the personal app? just what i’ve been hearing.

In the past they were done more in a rolling admissions style, I think. Although I am not entirely sure that is as true for RD as it always had been for EA. In any case, I think this year it is very hard to predict what they will do. I get the feeling it will depend on how solid the commitments they get from EA acceptances are. What I mean is that while already admitted students don’t have to let them know until May 1, they will certainly ask them (repeatedly probably) what their intentions are. The more students that say they are definitely coming to Tulane, the more they will probably hold off on accepting from the RD list, and the fewer they will accept. Lots of things in play, no doubt.

What are Tulanes acceptence rates. I think this school is awesome, but I feel like a lot of people who are applying to ivies and other schools of that caliber apply here as a safety school. What does it look like for someone with a 1280 SAT, good EC’s, upward trend, 8 AP’s, and really good essays and rec, but maybe bad grades freshman year wich resulted in only a 90% GPA weighted or about 3.75 weighted who really wants to go to Tulane?

Acceptance rate has been about 25%, but that is partly due to the huge number of apps they get. You are right, Tulane is a school that gets a lot of apps from students that are looking to attend Ivies or similar schools. Normally, 1280 SAT, strong AP’s, and good grades sophomore, junior and 1st semester senior year, along with the good EC’s will do well. Really wanting to go to Tulane is just as important. However, that kind of begs the question as to why you didn’t apply EA or even SCEA if you really want Tulane.

I actually applied ED somewhere else and got deferred. Now im starting to have a more open mind. While thinking of other schools i wanted to go to my friend suggested Tulane. I checked it out and everything about the school seems great, and New Orleans would be a completely new experience for me considering i live in New York. Tulane has become one of my top choices, and I am strongly considering it. Plus i’ve heard EA admissions can be harder than regular.

OK then, you might be well advised to tell that story to and express exactly those thoughts to your admissions counselor. There is nothing wrong with discovering Tulane later in the process, of course. Might be fate, who knows. But their knowing that you only found Tulane as a result of being deferred from another school and realizing that it might in fact be exactly the school for you is something they should know in considering your application.

Normally, EA at Tulane is not harder than regular admission, but this year is possibly proving to be an exception. Might not be harder than RD in the end; both look like they might turn out to be harder than past years.

Ok thanks, i am going to tell my admissions councelar that. Does Tulane have alumni interviews?

Tulane does not offer alumni interviews.

RegenMaedchen did you apply EA or RA?

yummymusic2, I marked EA on the first half of the app, which was submitted by the EA deadline. However, I ended up deciding to go RD and had everything else in by the first week of December, so they must have moved me to the RD group. I also used the priority (or personalized, I’m not quite sure what it’s called) application.
