...Regular classes have more 'fun' people?

my 2 non honors/AP classes are full of idiots…

At my school, the harder AP classes, like AP Physics B, no annoying or distracting people.
AP classes that people think they can get an A in (usually the humanities one, like U.S. History)–so many annoying people. They don’t freaking care about anything except to get a good grade to impress college.

electives classes-alright.

At my school it’s kind of opposite, sure a lot of the “fun” and “cool” kids are in the regular classes, because they have to maintain their rebel status, which is not trying or caring about school, but I am in the honors classes (Sophomore, only 1 AP available to me, which I’m in, the rest are honors), and the bulk of the kids in my classes are quite popular.

It’s funny because in my AP World History class, I have this guy who always dressed like a gangster, wearing do-rags, “pants on the ground”, and clothes 10 sizes too big.

^Is he really stupid and misplaced or what?

^You honestly think that because someone dresses like a “gangster” they are misplaced? I’m sure he’s just as smart as everyone else. Kids on CC really don’t get out of the suburbs too much, do they?

I disagree. I loathe my normal classes and wish I am in all AP/honors. I want friends that value progress and academics more than the average student. I’m not good with connecting with less motivated and thoughtful peers, and I don’t want to either. I value intelligence, diligence, and motivation a lot more than fun and frivolity. Granted, the modern conception of classroom fun is necessary for a good academic experience, there is currently too much emphasis on it, and I simply can’t stand there. Also, I believe there are to types of fun concerning this discussion - fun with intelligence, or fun with little/no intelligence. I prefer the former.

The concepts of what’s lame and fun really need to change.

I actually think that the opposite is true. My only fun classes are AP/honors classes, and it’s the normal classes that are really boring. First of all, the AP/honors teachers are tons better and more interesting than the teachers who teach the required (non-honors) classes. I think that the kids in the honors/AP classes are, for the most part, more interesting than “regular” kids. There’s far more instances of kids making jokes or otherwise having fun in harder classes, and it often seems that overall atmosphere in the “regular” classes is more uptight. People who take harder classes at my school aren’t really more uptight than the “normal” kids at all. Maybe it’s because the “regular” (required) classes are populated by people who don’t know each other, while the kids who take accelerated classes tend to be more comfortable around each other.

This thread is stupid.

Regular classes can be fun. Or not fun.
Honors classes can be fun. Or not fun.
AP classes can be fun. Or not fun.

I have not witnessed one type of class being overwhelmingly better than another, in terms of students.

^^^No I have plenty of people in my school who dress like “gangsters”, and they all come off as dumb no matter what classes they take, what they say, whatever. Just cause I live in a suburb, doesn’t mean there aren’t any minorities…

This is a purely subjective manner.

For example, my AP Government class is full of smart people but we have so much fun, and our teacher goes along with it, so it’s awesome. We’re always debating current events and issues and *****ing about school together.
On the other hand, my non-AP-or-honors Spanish class is 1st period, and a fusion of smart/not-so-smart kids. It’s the most BORING class in the world, and it’s 1st thing in the morning, so I usually want to kill myself.
My AP English class is pretty uptight though, but my teacher’s awesome, so that compensates for it.

It really really just happens to depend on the group of people that you’re in class with. I’ve found that most of my AP classes have been more rewarding in general, because I’ve enjoyed learning WHILE having a good time with people I like, since most of my friends are too smart for me and take at least 4 APs a year.

Look, whatever I think is fun, is my idea of fun. The OP was asking my own personal opinion, and I gave it. There is no need to be critiquing someone on their opinion in a CC board. Opinions are subjective. Apparently the kids in my school are much more different from the kids in other schools, who knows.
Regular Classes could be fun, or it could not be fun. It already had been stated. It’s all a matter of our own opinion. I for one do not like them, since the “regular” kids in my school are a bunch of jerks who make fun of everyone and everyrything and sleep with 5 different girls a night. Not to mention the constant swearings, and my teachers always on the verge of tears. The last time I took a CP class when I was a fresh, I decided I’m not ever going to be back on that route again. Yet again, its not competitive and some kids are nice and friendly.
A.P Classes can be fun, it could not be fun. Stated earlier too. Yes it does suck because its intense and the kids are usually focused on studying 24/7, but it really irks me when someone like these get blasted for being intellects with not life. That’s definitely not true, and to be honest some kids in CC needs to see them in a different light. Once again, not everyone follow the conventional idea of a stereotypical high school geek/intellect/misfit. Maybe to someone, partying next to dead fetus see it as lame, it was done for a NHS fundraisers and was a success. Nothing more or less. If the cutthroat environment of competition is too much for you, then maybe the A.P route is not suited for one. I rather talk with someone who is funny and knowledgeable, rather than someone who is just funny but lack the drive to pursue a farther education. Like as stated by others posters, its your OPINION not what others see it. It all depends with whom or what group you hang out with. Not the entire A.P classes in the whole Unites States.
Now, if my grammar is a bother ( I think someone pointed it out) then I’m sorry, English is not my first language. That is completely irrelevant to this discussion.

I love GEF classes. I hardly do anything and get an A+, and then the entire class is in shock because they think it is so hard. In AP classes, unless you take the easier ones, you get the same batch of 40 some kids. It gets really boring after a while. You have to diversify, life is not always about studying and debating. Take the time to laugh, I always laugh at my stupid test mistakes. 9 x 9 = 9. Ahh, good times…

@ RedUnicorn, the problem is the last GEF class you took was as a Freshmen. You might as well be taking a class with middle schoolers. As you get into 10 and 11 grade they really do start to mature. I would know, I was tutor in a 9th grade Algebra 1 class. I wanted to destroy them all everyday.

I totally disagree.
At my school, the same 50-60 kids are in all the AP Classes from grade to grade. Since Fresh. year I haven’t really had a class without at least 20 of them in it.

I’ve taken regulars. Art was horrendous, everyone is so SLOW and they want to goof around all the time, which gets boring fast.

I’ve also taken regular Physics, and though I love it, it’s only beacuse the course work is really difficult. Most of the kids dropped anyways, there’s like 10 people left.

AP CLASSES FTW!

I think arguments about AP kids being up tight is largely inaccurate. I think that rutgerskid and I probably have the same ideas of what is fun, and I still feel that way. Saying that all smart kids are the same is like saying that all people are the same. There is no common personality trait. I personally interrupt class all the time in all of them (only when the teacher isn’t talking or anything, however), including once when I thought my AP Chem teacher implied that barnacles could grow on my genitalia, prompting me to freak out, and our AP Lang. and Comp. class never gets anything done. Calculus and Spanish are the same. My terse mode of typing this displays just how exciting my classes are.

Perhaps it’s our smaller classes that allow us to get off topic, but at any rate, our idea of fun is not restricted to celebrating ∏ day

I don’t think kids in regular classes are more fun than the AP/Honors kids. In my school, because it’s so big, all the people in regular level courses don’t even know each other, so no one ever participates or even talks to anyone else in class, and the whole atmosphere is so depressing. In all the AP/honors courses it’s about the same hundred or so people seeing each other in every class, so we all know each other really well, which makes it much more fun.

But regular level classes do usually get more fun towards the end of each semester when people start knowing each other better.

I personally am an inside joke addict, and my higher level classes have more inside jokes :b

Dude, I hope you are not serious

^Somehow that post made me smile:).

Wow, this thread is frustrating me.

^^Agreed. If that is serious…just no.
