My daughter was accepted to Kenyon, with a fantastic financial aid package and it is clearly a fantastic school.

We are both concerned about the isolation of the area - any one have that concern or any insight?

My daughter will be an focusing on studio art and writing - with a clear ultimate goal of writing and creating the art for graphic novels.

We live in a town that has hundreds of art galleries (but, is small in the grand scheme of things) and we both worry that the mid-west small town isolation might hinder her progress toward her goal.

Insight? Input? Ideas?

Congrats to all those accepted. I’m preparing to graduate from Kenyon, a bitter-sweet time given how much I have enjoyed it here. As for the art/isolation, Gambier is isolated, but I don’t see why that would really limit a student’s ability to develop as an artist. The school’s latest investments are in new art facilities, and I think the close knit nature or the Kenyon community helps graduates find opportunities wherever they want to wind up.

Foolsgold, that’s the sense I get about this school. Kenyon’s “isolation” works in its favor. This applies to other schools in similar situations – from Grinnell to Williams. The seperateness encourages students to develop a vibrant community.
