Regular Decision Admission

Didn’t see a page for regular decision applicants so wanted to create one before the results came in. If anyone wants to share some thoughts regarding Richmond, whether it’s the school or the admission process, feel free to do so. I despise waiting so hopefully this will serve as a nice distraction.

My daughter has applied. We have not visited yet, but I have read a lot about the school and it seems really great. I was wondering if anyone knew about when “likely letters” will be sent out?

Does anyone know around what time in March they send the letters?

There is a thread from last March that said they mailed the letters last year on March 21. I assume it will be similar this year.

RD decision letters are supposed to be mailed on March 21. I still have not heard about when “likely letters” are
sent.

Probably around the third week of March is when letters are likely to be sent. I hope it is earlier but I doubt it.

I have never heard of “likely letters”…please explain? A letter saying “hint hint, watch your mail”?

Yes, it is a letter that says you should expect a big packet in a few weeks. It is basically a letter that tells you that you are going to be admitted. I saw comments from last year that these letters were sent out around March 14 or so. From what I have read, many schools now send these letters out to their top applicants. I believe it started with the Ivies and now many schools send them.

“Likely letters” are generally used for recruited athletes and very unique individuals. They generally come out during application season to get certain kids to apply. There isn’t really a point in sending a “likely letter” after applications and a couple weeks before decisions come out. Plus, those that would get an actual “likely letter” for academic reasons were most likely those that were up for Richmond scholars so they already know of their acceptance. If your child hasn’t gotten one as of yet, I wouldn’t be expecting one and I wouldn’t see that as a sign that they won’t be admitted. The vast majority of kids including top scholars don’t get likely letters from colleges.

My daughter just received a “early acceptance / likely letter” this morning with a scholarship! She was a regular decision applicant!

Just to clarify she was not a Richmond Scholar – just a regular decision applicant.

What state are you in and can you put your daughter’s stats?
Congrats!!!

I’ll give you her stats…kind of surprised. The letter just said that they wanted to let her know ahead of time and it included a Presidential Scholarship and that they would pay her way to the accepted student weekend.

Did anyone else receive an email notifying you on your acceptance? I received one 2 weeks ago and was really taken aback since it was quite early. (I was a scholars semi-finalist but was not chosen for the finalist round.)

@gcat231 I received the email too. It went out to all the semi-finalists who didn’t make it into the next round.

Are international students who require substantial financial aid but have been selected as richmond scholar finalists guaranteed admission?

If you’re a richmond scholar you’re in.

I heard that our decisions are released on March 22nd on the Notification Date thread. Can anyone confirm this?

I saw that too but March 22 is a Sunday and Richmond mails their letters…
