Regular Decision applicant seeking insight on admission chances!

Hello everyone,

I applied to Wake Forest regular decision and I am trying to get a feel for what sort of chances I have at acceptance.

Education: All boy Private Catholic High School (It is a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence)

ACT: 33 composite

GPA by year: Year 1, 2.86; Year 2, 3.7; Year 3, 3.7; Year 4, 3.94
Cumulative: Un-weighted=3.52 Weighted=5.06/6 and top 20 % of class
I hated school when I first entered high school and my focus was on football, hence the terrible GPA. I slowly discovered my inner student and improved each year. One of my letters of recommendation is from the Dean of the Advanced Program citing my growth as student.

Classes: Member of the Advanced Program at my school.
AP classes: AP Human Geo, AP World History, AP English Language and Composition, AP English Literature and Composition, AP Physics 2, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus AB, AP Macroeconomics, AP Microeconomics

EC’s: Freshman Year: Football, state and national champions

Sophomore Year: Football, state champions

Junior Year: Football; KUNA (Kentucky United Nations Assembly) Conference where I wrote a bill, presented it, and then debated; FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) competed nationally in the Public Service Announcement category; BETA Club; St. Joseph of Arimathea Society (We conduct funerals for homeless people or those that simply cannot afford one)

Senior Year: Firstly, I must note that I decided not to play football this year because I wanted to pursue other activities. KYA (Kentucky Youth Assembly) Conference where I participated in mock House of Representatives and Senate debates; KUNA; FBLA; St. Joseph of Arimathea Society; ACE Mentoring; PreMed Society; BETA Club; UCREW with the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville. The center is funding me and a group of kids to start a social enterprise that will be up and running by April 2015; Elected as a Spirit Captain by senior class. The spirit captains lead student sections, create promotional videos for big games, and organize and plan pep rallies.

Summer Activity: Last year, I was one of 4 students selected to participate in an internship for a group Neonatal Specialists at a Louisville hospital. During the internship, I worked firsthand on C-Sections, the daily runs of a Neonatologist, invasive procedures of a newborn child, and tons of other fantastic experiences. My main CommonApp essay is about an experience at the hospital.

Letters of Recommendation: Dean of the Advanced Program, my Chemistry teacher, and the doctor who mentored me over the summer.

Did I interview? No

I know that was a lot of info, but I would appreciate any feedback or insight.

Thank you everyone!

Assuming your Wake-specific essays were well-written, I expect you’ll hear good news from admissions. The only thing that would concern me is that they might interpret your lack of an interview as not showing genuine interest. Your EC’s and rigorous coursework at a strong school plus your upward GPA trend should mitigate your low GPA freshman year. Best of luck & keep us posted!

they said for freshmen interview is fully booked. I did not get one but it won’t affect the chance being accept because it is not a must.
