Regular Decision Applicants

Oftentimes schools wait list people they don’t think will accept admission since they are “overqualified”. The school just wants to protect their admissions yield. If you express interest in staying on the wait list, you are admitted quickly since they know you will likely attend.

I just got accepted. I never applied to any of the supplemental programs at AU like the Global Scholars program. Did anyone know if I could try to join the program if I attend in the fall or if I can still apply now?

Still no email! I thought the fact that they email intls woud save me from this agonizing wait, apparently not. At least I have two great acceptances and still waiting on 8 schools

Thanks, everyone. I was simply very confident that I’d have at least one DC school to attend. I’m lucky to have other offers elsewhere, and I’m very glad for those of you who got in. @ethorn8, @AMothersLove, @SoCold, and @chipbee, thank you for your kind words. And @ethorn8, it is kind of crazy, isn’t it? Well, at least that’s over with! :)

It could be that the intended major has an effect upon the decision? I applied to the College of Arts and Sciences as a Psych major, and I’ve noticed in the FB group that there aren’t many of us. Whereas Poli Sci, there are lots. So perhaps they’re easier on people who applied to less popular majors, and harsher to the others?

Glowing recommendations

I think the two biggest keys to getting into AU is 1) Showing interest. I really don’t think they’ll accept you if you don’t seem like you will actually accept the admission offer. A lot of people with super high stats probably get rejected/waitlisted because it looks like AU is just a safety school. And 2) Dedication to community service and social justice. I think it’s really important to talk about one specific issue that you’re really passionate about. AU prides themselves in being socially conscious and politically active, so if you don’t seem like a student with these qualities I doubt they’ll accept you.

And of course, like other people said, it definitely also depends on what program you’re applying to.

Totally agree. Seeing the stats of some of the folks that were rejected I have to believe it’s not just a numbers game at AU. My daughter got in as a B+/A- student with just OK test scores. BUt she visited twice and anyone reading her app would see that AU is not a “safety” for her.

Definitely appears most waitlisted are “overqualified”. If you really want to attend, contact Admissions and let them know. We are doing that with another University.

Nothing in the mail today! Is anyone else out there still waiting?

@SoCold I’m still waiting in Maryland… I don’t understanding what’s taking so long?

@SoCold - nothing in western PA either.

I think I’m going to call them…there is no reason an email should take this long to send is there?

Is there anyone from the Midwest who hasn’t heard back yet? I’m from the Chicago area and I still haven’t heard anything. They said it could be as late as tomorrow or Thursday but I can’t keep waiting!

Also, I visited the campus yesterday. It’s perfect. In every way.

Accepted into WMP.
I got a teeny tiny bit of FA… not nearly enough! (I demonstrated a lot of need)
And no merit :frowning:

I really can’t afford this school at all… what a shame.

@hannah232430 I am from Kansas, and I haven’t gotten my letter yet either. I did, however, receive an e-mail for an admitted family chat yesterday so I know I am in (plus, I was able to create an account on the student portal.)

I didn’t get that email and I can’t seem to make an account on the student portal. I’m still crossing my fingers though.
