When I finally received his messages, I called him back and then he never returned my calls!! AND it didn’t help that he only contacted me approximately a week before the deadline…!

Accepted!!!

Asian female with a 2360 SAT, 3.83 GPA, 8 APs (seven 5s, one 4), mediocre ECs, a lot of interest in Spanish language, decent essay, and NIGHTMARE interview (I went to the wrong coffee shop, realized this 20 minutes afterwards, was in tears when I showed up, and answered a lot of the questions with, “Um… I don’t know…” Pretty much everything that could have gone wrong went wrong.)

Also accepted to Dartmouth, UChicago, Georgetown SFS, UVa, American, and my two in-state safeties. Waitlisted at Stanford and rejected at Cornell.

For the waitlisters: my S was in your position 3 years ago. he is now a Feb Junior at Midd.

Why you were waitlisted: too many qualified applicants, bad luck, and someone else has a similar story to yours with similar stats and maybe something extra. You ABSOLUTELY are qualified if you are on the list, just not lucky.
What you should do: show the love. It’s too early to tell how many , if any will come off. If you have ANY personal connection to Midd, use it.
Get an alum to write a letter why they will be foolish not to accept you.
Have your school guidance counselor call admissions next week and ask if there were any deficiencies in your application, express your deep sincere desire to go to Midd if accepted, and offer to send anything lacking.
YOU YOURSELF not your mother should also call the admissions office and ask the same questions, expressing the same interest. Also send a supplementary packet-not too long but with a cover letter expressing your regret and conviction that Midd needs you, any new transcript with great grades, that 32 ACT you didn’t send, any award-winning columns you have written or art project you did and maybe one more letter. It shouldn’t be TOO LONG or redundant, but if there is something new you should include it.
If you said you wouldn’t be a Feb, now is the time to change your mind.

Hang in there! If you have another acceptance and would be happy there, turn in the card that says “no thank you” as soon as possible, and give someone else a break.
Remember Midd isn’t the only good school in the world and try to put this into
perspective.

You are qualified, just not lucky.

Class rank: 3rd in class of 653 (may end up graduating as Salutatorian)
Course load: will graduate with 9 AP classes; don’t want to list them all but among them AP Calculus BC, AP Spanish Language, AP World History, and AP Bio
Extracurriculars: Spanish Governor’s School, Opinion Editor of school newspaper, Key Club (officer in 10th grade), and National Honor Society
SAT I: 720 (Reading), 680 (Math), and 740 (Writing) (2140 total)

AP Scores: one 3 and three 5’s
Recs: waived my rights but I read one and it was great; and my counselor loves me (and I love her-- she’s wonderful, just a side note lol)

Essays: hard to rate my own essays but I love to write and I’m good at it

I’m looking at this with the new perspective a whole hour can bring-- I think this is the best thing that could have happened because it made me realize that UVA is the right school for me. UVA ECHOLS 2016!!! Congrats to everyone who got in Middlebury-- you guys have a great option. I hope those who, like me, didn’t get in can get excited about being part of the class of 2016 at other great schools!

The entire procces of college admissions has made me realize that is really is what you do, not the college. I have seen so many amazing applicants be rejected, and so many unworthy legacies get in instead. If you got rejected/waitlisted don’t worry too much, it just means you are too awesome/cool/superamazing for them ;)

also I’m brand new on here… but I’ve been going on CC for a couple yrs now and just never got around to creating an account of my own… so thank you in general to everyone on here, it’s really helped me A LOT, and I wish now that I had gotten on sooner… CC people are pretty awesome… :)

Im still not sure if I’m going to end up at Middlebury…right now it is my first choice but tied with Georgetown, so I’m going to have to take my time to make the right decision.[/li]
For those rejected/waitlisted: stay hopeful! You are still exceptional students ( trust me, you are; let’s be honest, the only students that care enough to be on this site are college-obsessed, overachieving perfectionists ).
