Regular Decision Date?

You can fill out the decision inquiry… I just really don’t suggest calling and sounding desperate. Trust me, I understand, I really truly do. I was completely crushed last year when I got waitlisted and I was VERY tempted to call admissions. But, my dad was behind me the entire time encouraging not to do that. At this point, just show yourself in the most positive light and your chances on getting accepted may rise. Just follow the advice I’ve posted earlier and good luck!

I was waitlisted last year as well and I was accepted June 16th off the waitlist, most of waitlist decisions are made in June according to the JMU website. Similar to Jhs I earned As on the extra quarter while on the waitlist and wrote them a note and within a coulpe weeks I was accepted. If worst comes to worst you go to a community college or another university for a year do well and transfer in.

thank you both! i just cannot see these next four years anywhere else but jmu. i know transferring is an option but i would hate to miss out on freshman year. ugh! i will fill out the decision inquiry and type something nice. hopefully this works! do you know how the waitlist works? it says that it is not “pre-ranked” but “if spaces become available, we will review applications from students who fill out the Waitlist Position Acceptance form.” so do they do pick the most qualified applicants off the waitlist? although i feel like all of the students on the waitlist must be pretty equal

When they say the waitlist isnt “preranked” it means that after May 1st, they look through everyones application who accepted a spot on the waitlist. Then they decide whose the most qualified and sent out acceptances to those individuals. As I said before most are sent out in June, but some earlier in May. They even make more offers overs the summer depending on the number of cancellations they receive from people who sent in their deposits.

okay thank you for the help!

np, i wish you the best of luck. I know exactly how you feel as I was in the same spot last year. Just have positive thoughts, get strong grades 4th quarter and write them a note expressing your interest!

that is exactly what i will do! would you advise filling out the decision inquiry? or writing a hand written letter and mailing it

I’d advise not to send in the inquiry form because writing a personalize message is more meaningful. They also probably get some many inquiries that they may find it annoying. Best of luck to you!

heyyou, my S was waitlisted at JMU two years ago. He requested a decision explanation and waited for an email response. He was pleasantly surprised with a phone call from an admissions officer who very kindly explained the reasoning for his decision and informed him that they had also received an additonal letter advocating for him from one of his teachers. My S was completely unaware that his teacher had went the extra mile for him after his waitlist, but we will always be grateful to her because he was called again toward the end of April and admitted.

Aww that made my day! Congrats to your son that is great news and comforting too… were they able to offer a specific reason as to why he was on the waitlist? I’m hoping they can tell me something specific so I know what to work on. Did your son accept the offer?

^^They were very specific and the issues he had were specific grades on his transcript. Unfortunately, there was nothing he could do about that at the time. He had a good GPA and very strong test scores and ec’s. In the end, I think these factors, his teacher’s letter, and his rigorous courseload pushed him over the top. I don’t know if they ever get down to deciding between the last few admitted or not admitted, but we choose to believe he was in that bunch and just fell short as they admitted him from the waitlist before May1.

Oh, and yes my S is a very happy JMU sophomore!

Ohh wow that is very good to hear. I actually just spoke to my admissions counselor today and he said the reason why I was on the waitlist is because I didn’t take enough AP’s… but I’m dully enrolled taking college classes so I feel like that should make up for it but we will see what happens! I am going to try harder than ever in school

heyyou, good luck to you! I am rooting for you and sending you good vibes!

Thank you!!

I GOT IN! Thank you for all of the support!
And good luck to everyone who is still waiting!

Same here!!! I opsted a lot when the regular decisions were being posted. I’m sure there are a couple of rubber marks on the asphalt from how hard I slammed on my brakes in my car when the Southern states advisor called me and informed me of my acceptance. It was THAT exciting.

Just a couple of thigns though: I was notified Wednesday of my acceptance, and paid my deposit thursday. I received notification that my deposit was accepted on Saturday, but till had not received ANY formal letter. It’s really weird, and very unorthodox. But anyways, I’ve started filling out all of the necessary stuff on the onebook page (still haven’t received the hardcopy yet) such as my @dukes.jmu.edu email and my email account and stuff like that.

The one thing that is giving me a heartache, is the Resident Questionairre, and Contract for my dorm. I’m not able to get past the log in screen. It asks for my e-ID. I have tried my number, and my actual lastname, first initial of first name and initial of middle name, but no cigar. It keeps saying I do not have permission or my username/password is wrong.

Anybody have any luck with that?

Your eID is generally the first 6 letters of your last name, your first and middle initial – example if your name is John Scott Smithfield your eID would likely be smithfjs. The exception if you have a common last name and the same first and middle initial of another, then there will also be a number, or if you have no middle initial… Than there would be an “x.”

It should be the same as your email address.

Unless there is also a separate onebook or housing contract password your password should be the same one you chose for your email password.

Also check the dates that the onebook steps become available, you may find that some steps could not be available yet?

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply…

In regard towards the e-ID, I saw that. My e-ID is wilms**, pretty simple right? So I type in my ID along with @dukes.jmu.edu. I used the same password and everything but alas it still restricts me from accessing it.

As for the dates that it might come up, where can we find the dates that these steps become accessible?

for your eID you would not type the rest of your email address just the first part wilms** – then your password.

I am not sure about the dates of availability.
