I don’t think GT has a linguistics major. There is a minor in Japanese available.
I guess these are the closest majors:
Bachelor of Science in Applied Languages and Intercultural Studies (ALIS)
Bachelor of Science in Global Economics and Modern Languages (GEML)
Bachelor of Science in International Affairs and Modern Languages (IAML)
Expressing a passion for one of these areas would give him a good chance.

The Chinese language program is also strong, as is Japanese, and some Romance Languages.
There is a four class certificate program in Linguistics at GT, and also check the College of Computing,
there is a lot of linguistics research work at GT in computer science department, if he wants to major
in CS.
