Regular Decision Letters

STILL nothing in MI. I had hope until I heard people were still getting rejected even today...

Good luck, Kev! Williams is lucky to have you.

Same here, farock. I was really suprised to be waitlisted after being rejected at Vassar and Haverford.

Okay, I'm sort of upset about this. This is so unexpected and really seems unfair. Is this common practice for a school to send rejections and waitlists later to save a few pennies? Because I haven't heard of such a thing happening with other schools I applied to..

I got into Wes on Monday and immediately called one of my best friends to see if he'd heard. Nothing. Tuesday, nothing. Today.. nothing. I am ****ed off and the fact that I got in is making him even more stressed out and I stressed out vicariously for him. It sucks and I am really angry and, honestly, I know it may seem petty, but it really discourages me from enrolling next year. It is really cruel to leave these people hanging. I don't know what happened, or if this was a mistake or what but.. it doesn't make sense to me. This is frustrating, and, frankly, I think something like this makes them look really, really bad.

I just feel almost personally offended by the school because of this. I know it's not ME but I have been even more nervous every day, waiting for him to get his letter than I was waiting to get mine. I understand rejecting a student.. but subjecting him to over THREE DAYS of extra waiting, every day hoping and not knowing.. just to ultimately get a rejection letter? Ugh.

I might be wrong here, but from checking the USPS website, it appears that 29.3 cents is the discount rate for first class letters that are presorted by five-digit zipcode.

I think that presorted first class letters should arrive just as fast as other first class. The only difference is that the sender saves some money on postage by presorting the letters, which saves the post office time and money.

I'm with you, starbusting. Waiting made me so nervous, but it also gave me a lot of false hope. I pretty much cried my eyes out an hour ago... it's the most I've cried in a long time. It really hurt... it's adding insult to injury, and I hope the people at Wesleyan know how much pain they have caused.

i sure hope that's the explanation. the alternative would be truly offensive. my kid's letter did not come yesterday. prob. in today's post. at this late date, i expect it's a "no". wes had been first choice for a long time, but now DK has prob. decided on another LAC (higher ranked in media but not in her heart until early letter arrived and she started to think of it as a place that wanted her).

to all people still waiting: if you haven't gotten your letter yet, you can call in now and get your decision over the phone.

i'm still gonna wait for the letter though, because calling to get my rejection doesn't sound all that appealing, lol ... (one of my close friends who has grades and sat scores MUCH higher than me got waitlisted/rejected today. so i pretty much have no chance.)

so there are no more acceptances going out anymore? =/

I feel for everyone who's experiencing pain and disappointment out there this week, but please don't add to it by unfairly blaming the Wesleyan mail room. Rdaneel is right: A presorted first-class letter with 29.3 cents is supposed to be handled just like a first-class letter with a 39 cent stamp. I'm sure it's just the usual inconsistencies in mail service that make it seem like the rejections all took longer. Many of those who received their rejections on Monday or Tuesday just didn't choose to post the news, I'm guessing.

"I might be wrong here, but from checking the USPS website, it appears that 29.3 cents is the discount rate for first class letters that are presorted by five-digit zipcode."

Now that was enterprising. It appears as though rdaneel is right. There is no other rate of 29.3 cents listed. The rates for "Standard Mail" (less than First Class) are all lower than that.

I recall that there was much upset in December 2005 when the MIT mail room inadvertently sent out Early Action acceptances (which, from MIT, come in tubes) on a Friday but did not send out rejections/deferrals (regular letters) until Monday -- which is not what the Admissions Office had intended at all. MIT duly apologized.

D got her letter today - rejected. Oh, well. Good luck to all who got in!

i got waitlisted today. i'm going to remain hopeful though.
i didn't think that i was qualified at all, but i guess they see something in me..

congratulations to all who have been accepted!

momofapplicant07,

FYI, Colgate did not mail their rejection letters with the full 39 cent frist class postage.

called this morning- rejected. ah well.

R E J E C T E D .... A H H H H

I got my letter finally and was waitlisted, of course. Now I am officially waitlisted/rejected from everywhere except my safeties. This is so depressing.

My two friends who applied got their letters today. One was rejected, but it's okay because she didn't want to go. One of my best friends was waitlisted.. which is okay, I suppose. meh. I'm more upset than he is lmao.

I'm just really annoyed that these letters had to come so much later.. I feel like it is really hurtful and offensive and I know it may not have been Wes's fault but I feel like an apology is still somewhat in order for the lateness of it, because it really DOES make it hurt so much more.. having that dangle over your head..

rejection, yay. was expecting it anyhow - totally wasn't expecting my 4.4/2350 friend to get rejected/waitlisted too though ...

and rms95006, same here :(

Mine came yesterday - waitlisted.

I think it's pretty uncool that the little letters took so long to get here... But it's most likely the post office's fault.

Very uncool. Type of thing that will influence my subsequent thinking about Wes. I know how people are treated by admissions office is not necessarily reflective of the institution as a whole, or student experience there, but it makes you think. There's a superciliousness about the place that gets annoying, even to someone who was inclined to like it. There are lots of better places/other places. Congrats to those who got in who are deciding to go there. For those who didn't -- I don't honestly feel it's much of a loss.
