That is your huge hook, and if people here were as rude as you are, they might have made some comments about how thats the only reason you got a likely. You tell her that her scores were abysmal, you got a 2150, not bad at all, nothing to brag about. I guess my message here is don’t give it if you don’t want to receive it. <p>Jeez…as a member of the class of 2012 I wholeheartedly disagree with all of these derogatory statements. The cards will fall as they fall, but, it is important to realize that people don’t just mosey their way into a spot among Duke’s top applicants. Although it may have helped SOME applicants, it is certainly unfair to deem an entire bloc of accepted students inferior because of the color of their skin, and its just plain false to put a likely letter recipient in this category. Duke is an extremely multicultural campus, with 44% of the student body coming from a minority background…if some of you cannot embrace this fact then maybe you should consider a different university.</p>

<p>I HATE to see people say these kind of things. Being a minority does not give you an acceptance letter. i have an african-american friend who didn’t get a likely letter at duke. He has a 4.6 GPA, 2250 SAT, awards, leadership positions and everything else. I do have another African american friend who DID get a likely letter, but you can’t say that minority status helped him. He is number 2 (strait up no tie) in the class and has a perfect 2400. </p>
<p>I am embarrassed to hear white people act so racist out of jealousy. The only minorities who didn’t get in on based on brains are athletes, and I would guess that even they are smarter than you think.</p>

I think I would still be a qualified candidate for Duke or any other university regardless of any head start I may get from affirmative action. I don’t see how someone with such far fetched and ridiculous ideas can have the brains to fill out an application for a prestigious university such as Duke. You should come visit TJHSST (yes, the one that got ranked #1 by US News), and talk to some of my African American friends their about how their noises that resemble speech get them into college. Most of them would ignore you or slap you in the face with a 2300+ SAT.</p>
