2340 - 770 M 770 Cr 800 W

Since Columbia only looks at Math and Verbal

800 - M
770 - V

I'm sensing a little selection bias in this experiment.

No kidding... Do they really only look at math and verbal? How do you know that? Do they treat the writing section as an SAT II in that case? I've never heard of that happening.

I visited, the admissions guy explictly stated that they will not look at the writing section. I do not believe they treat it as an SATII.

haaaaa...I have 770 V 800 M too.

Then why do they even ask for it?

They will look at it as in they will see it. Let's say two students are basically on par. Someone with a high writing score and a 12 essay will inevitabley gain an advantage. On the other hand, someone else with the same M+R but a low writing score (and essay especially important) will not be helped... Columbia values writing ability so if you got a 12 on the essay (top 0.06% according to CB), it's very impressive. I'm sure Columbia will not ignore it.

Hey, I'm also applying for Columbia regular.

Math: 800
Critical Reading: 800

btw, mikenmaddog, we were in the same CTY number theory class ^^

I got a 12 on the essay, but I still only got a 700 writing.

I highly doubt some people will want to post on here, after seeing people posting 800s.

Math: 790
Verbal: 690
Math II: 770
Chem: 730
Taking Lit and Math I in December, I wouldnt' be surprised if Math I comes out higher than Chem.

math: 690
verbal: 730
writing: 740

us history: 760
literature: 800

Verbal: 660
Math: 800
Writing: 640 essay:11

Im an international..

I don't understand the grading on the writing- I got a 10 on my essay and still got an 800, even though I got a multiple choice wrong as well. That was two years ago, though, so maybe it's changed?

My son is a freshman. His SATs were in low 700's for all three parts. (thinking 740 math, 720 or 740 on other parts), 10 on essay. He did kick butt on SAT IIs-800 Math II, 800 Chemistry, 740 Literature. His application essays were great. Just proof lower (in comparison to some of the posts) SAT I scores won't kill you.

Math: 800
Verbal: 630 (can I make myself feel better and say I'm Russian.. heheh)
Math I: 750
Math II: 730

M - 800
Cr - 770
W - 720, 11e

sarahcferg, writing (as well as pretty much all sat IIs) are based on curves. chances are, your mistakes were small compared to other test takers' mistakes, and the rest of the crowd who took the same test as you screwed up a lot more.

CR- 750
M- 800
W- 730 essay- 11
good luck everyone

Cr- 770
M- 580
W- 800 essay- 11

Obviously my math is WAY below par. I'm considering Columbia as an ultra-reach but I'm not sure if there is any point in applying with a score that falls probably in the bottom 1% (at best). Do you think on the basis of this score alone that they would completely cut me out? Is there any point of applying with this?

Damn you cruel fate, giving me an 800 on the one section that no one looks at!
