solid extracurriculars...but I have a feeling my scores will weigh me down

Average SAT (M + V) at Columbia is 1426. Yours is 1490. Don't worry.

thanks for the reassurance, I surprised their average is so low. Three people from my school who applied last year with above 1500 were all waitlisted or deferred, so I'm hoping something in my app will help me out.

Math: 770
CR: 720
Writing: 720
Literature: 750
Spanish: 720
US: 650 (planning to retake that one)

With respect to SATs at Columbia, it is best to think of them as a pass-fail step. A good SAT will not get you in, but a bad SAT can get you rejected or at least increase the need for an incredible hook. Once your SAT gets above a certain level you have shown an ability to do the work. Your GPA shows that you have down the work in the very recent pass and is therefore more important. I don't think we have the knowledge to tell anyone not to worry. The "surprizingly low average SAT" is not that low. These students have done other things to demonstrate their abilities.

It's a factor of the the bottom of the class (diversity admits, athletes, development/legacies) weighting it down.

SAT 1: 800 (CR), 800 (M), 730 (W)

SAT 2s:
US Hist. , Math 2, Chem, all 800s

^ voluntary response bias

guilty as charged - 123orange, lol

but i have mediocre ECs :(
