Okay, so I'm pretty sure I understand the College Match Process. However, I'm not too sure on the RD Process through QuestBridge.

I know it is non-binding and there is no application fee, but is it still considered a "major hook"? Can a finalist applying through the RD Process still get a hefty financial aid package? I know that one isn't guaranteed, but several of the partner colleges (such as Yale) will ask for very little money from applicants within the income range that QuestBridge looks for anyway. Could the financial aid package be worse than it would if I applied to Yale normally?

What I'm saying is that if applying through QuestBridge won't help me any more than applying regularly (both financially and as a hook) than I really don't want to complicate the process and attempt to become a finalist anyway.

Applying through QB for RD is supposed to give you a boost in ultiesthat it sets your application apart in that it shows you are a low-income student. Many of these colleges are looking for more diversity so its another way to show the colleges that you are a high achieving student who has faced economic difficulties. Also, I personally feel that the essays on the QB app were a lot easier to write. It just seemed like I was able to truly show myself off with those essays more so than essays on other apps I did.

Regarding the financial aid, I’m not quite sure as I didn’t apply RD but I do personally know a girl who was accepted to the same school I’m going to through RD and we have very similar FA packages. (I was matched). Basically, I don’t think QB should hurt your FA in any way.

Okay thanks!

Also, could I do this? I want to apply only to Yale, Princeton, and Stanford through the College Match Program since they are non-binding. If I get into Yale I will most certainly be going, but if I only get into one of the other two I’m not so sure. If I get matched with one of the other two, could I still apply to other schools (I’m thinking WUSTL, Vanderbilt, Middlebury, etc) and then potentially decline my “match” and matriculate somewhere else? After all, they are non-binding partner schools…

Thanks again.

Absolutely, that’s the whole idea behind the nonbinding schools :)

Okay; I wasn’t sure if you could reach outside of the program if you got matched, or if you had to just stick with the program and its partner schools in some way, shape, or form. Thanks!

Question:

I’m filling out the QuestBridge application and under my mother’s employment it asks for the number of years she has been employed. She has been in her current job for only about 2 months. However, I have tried putting in:

2 months

<1

.166

1/6

0

And none of these are allowed. It seems that I have to put that she’s worked in her job for at least one year, but that would be a huge overestimate and would greatly impact my application. What should I do?

FallenAngel9: There is a space underneath family income that allows you to write about extraordinary circumstances. Say your mother has only had a job for two months there.

I did that, but I was worried that they might not notice since it says she’s had her current job for a year just above that.

You could always ask those at Questbridge and make sure what the best way of presenting this information is.
