I was extremely disappointed when I saw my decision. I have already been waitlisted at MIT, Washington U so far and I really hated to see this decision again. I wonder what did I do wrong on my application that made so many colleges put me on the waitlist.. was it because I needed 100% aid or my low SAT score?

Decision: Accepted

Stats:[ul]
[] Fee Waiver Used?: yes :o
[] SAT I (by section): awful, 2020 - CR: 700 M: 650 W: 670
[] SAT IIs: Math I: 670 Math II: 740 (yes, I too find it quite sad that I did worse on Math1) Lit: 750 USH: 710
[] GPA, Weighted and Unweighted: W: 4.17 UW: 3.86 (didnt do so great in freshman year but GPA got progressively better)
[] Rank: 5/141; top 5%

[] APs (including this year's): History of Art (5), APUSH (5), Lang/Comp (5), Lit/Comp, Spanish, Calculus AB, Macro/Micro Economics (will have taken all 7 APs that the school offers)
[] IBs (including this year's): none
[] Senior Yr Courseload: 4 APs, 2 advanced classes
[] Number of Apps from Your School: none that I know of
[] Other stats (Awards, etc.): Nothing spectacular, really! Mostly school and a few local awards.
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] ECs listed on app: Model UN and PAAC (President), WorldQuest Chair, NHS, SNHS (VP), and 350+ hours of awesome community service
[] Job/Work Experience: haha, sadly none!
[] Essays (subject and responses): Well, I applied through the Common App cause I'm an essay recycler (to my detriment, seriously); CA essay was basically about my trip to a remote village in the Hunan Province of China and reflections on my experience teaching underprivileged children there (it's better than it sounds, really!). My second essay was that one about if you had no responsibilities, etc.. and I made some little cardboard thing using origami paper to illustrate my perfect day. It was quite odd.. and had paper cranes, pictures, and a tiny Pride and Prejudice book on it - hey, it said I could use any medium!
[] Teacher Recs: Never read them, though I'm assuming they were generic?
[] Counselor Rec: Nice but generic
[] Interview (feel, interviewer and general location): I never had one
[] Hook (TASP, RSI, Research, etc.): I'm not sure.. I didnt do anything extraordinary and I haven't won any distinguished awards?!
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Hawaii
[] School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): Private Catholic ALL GIRLS school (it truly is the epitome of an ultraconservative school)
[] Ethnicity: Chinese
[] Gender: F
[] Income Bracket: Lower middle?
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): first generation college-bound!
[] Strengths: Extraordinarily passionate about international relations <3
[] Weaknesses: low SATs, nothing distinguishing?
[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I honestly have no idea, especially when there are so many well-qualified candidates out there :( Perhaps they were lacking a quirky Asian girl who utterly detests math/science but loves politics/IR and enjoys folding paper cranes.. or the AdCom was sleep deprived. :D [/li][/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Still incredibly perplexed why I got in (especially when I made the greatest mistake ever on the CA essay), but maybe this gives hope to any low SATs, non-science-oriented individual who wants to go to JHU? :D
