Regular decision to UW Madison and chances

Hi,

My daughter applied to UW Madison 2 weeks before the regular decision deadline. It wasn’t originally on her radar until she talked to her cousin who is 10 years older and had done his undergraduate there. Also, some of the Physical Therapists that she shadows really encouraged her to look at it so she spent some time doing online research and watching videos etc.

She has a 1400 SAT. 720 English and 680 math
3.98 us/4.244 weighted
4 year pom dancer. 2 on Varsity ——-15-20 hours of practice a week with one month off during Summer.
Multiple clubs
Over 100 service hours
Officer in one and state winner in fashion sketch (of all things)
Shadows at Physical Therapy office during breaks.

What do you think her chances are? Even though University of WWisconsin was added to her list later in the process, it has become the front runner of where she wants to go for kinesiology.

Thank you!

So - on the merits, she’s in.

What I don’t know are two things:

  1. Wisconsin publicly caters to in-state

  2. They don’t answer in the FAQ - but some schools - like Maryland, etc. - if you don’t apply early action, your odds are long. Not sure if that holds water here.

Wisconsin is highly ranked in the field but I don’t know if the major is impacted - i.e. they could have filled up from EA.

So why on the merits. 45% had a 4.0+ and she does. The other 55% not (last year) and her 1440 is smack in the middle if you look at their 25/75 although it excels in English and less so in math because 74% had a 700+.

But adding to the positive - only 61% took a test and likely some (15% SAT and 46% ACT) took and submitted both - so near half the class or at least 40% didn’t submit a test - so that’s gonna score points.

So I think she’s solidly comfortable but I"m not sure how the two things I brought up will impact. Early action a definite.

If you are OOS, they give littler merit (small budgets) so it is pricey.

Not sure where you are in those type of things.

Good luck.

I hope she gets to visit to see if it’s right for her.
