Regular Decision UIUC

Is it a lot more difficult to get in to U of I urbana champaign if I applied regular decision rather than priority decision? I am instate, ACT: 26, GPA(unweighted): 3.76, Class Rank: top 10% , and I take pretty rigorous classes (AP and honors classes). I'm just wondering if I should be worried about not having a good shot at UIUC. Thanks.

Don’t stress. You have a decent ACT score and solid grades. Hopefully you were involved outside of school too. I dont know what you are majoring in but overall the numbers look fine. I think you have a fair shot regardless of if u just did regular decision or early. Good luck!

Thanks for the reassurance. I have been stressing a lot over this. I am majoring in biology (college of las) so it’s not as competitive as business or engineering. Regarding out of school, I am involved in a varsity sport, I have work experience, and volunteer experience.

I wouldn’t say that it’s A LOT more difficult to get in during the regular decision period, but it is definitely a little more challenging. As stated on the U of I’s website, “Completing the application during the Priority Filing Period may give you an advantage when space is limited.” So, hypothetically, if you were competing for the last spot available with someone with the same stats as you who had applied during the priority filling period, the U of I would take that person over you. That’s really the only major disadvantage.

I’d say your chances are fairly good. Your ACT may be a little low, but your GPA is good. You could probably at least get into general studies if not your intended major.

I’m in the same boat as you. I applied during the priority period to business, but was deferred until the regular period. I have around a 3.74 UW GPA and 32 on the ACT. Hopefully both of us get in!

Thanks. That clears a lot up. And yeah business is very tough, but you look like you will get in with that act and gpa. I was just worried because my act is kind of low. Good luck to you!

I’m on the same boat. I’ve been freaking out over the past two months because I got deferred from Business in December. My act is a 26, GPA weighted is:3.88 (school doesn’t do unweighted), grades have gone up every year, been very involved in school (3+ leadership positions), volunteer hours, some work experience, and my essays were solid. I don’t think I have a chance at business but do you guys think I can get at least DGS. I’m nervous because my high school is highly competitive (IL). Let me know! Thanks!

It depends on how competitive your school is. I think you’ll get in from some type of prep school and you have a good shot from any other school. Don’t stress since you’re instate.

Sorry I’m a little confused. What do you mean by prep school? Do you think I’ll have a better chance transferring from another school then getting in?

Sorry haha no I’m not telling you to transfer schools. I meant a competitive school where a B is like an A at another school since a 3.76 at some schools is very different from a 3.76 at other schools.

Oh I get what you’re saying! Haha I was a little slow on that one. The school near my school kids who have 4.1s might have legit 4.5s at the other school. Yeah I really hope I can get into at least DGS. I know my work potential and I’m willing to work hard to get into business. Are you waiting on regular decision too?

I think you have a shot:) Lol noo I’m still a junior but my friend goes to UIUC

good luck man. you will get into dgs if you got deferred (and not rejected) from the business school.

Thanks! Good luck to you too!
