Congrats, inatlga! That’s wonderful news. We, too, were shocked and delighted at how attractive the financial aid package turned out to be.

kawaiiamber, my S received a Presidential scholarship and it was not tied to institutional grant money, so I’m not sure that’s true. It’s my understanding that the scholarship is good all 4 years, regardless of our finances. With that said, I do believe SLC has some scholarships that are tied to financial need.

kawaiiamber–it was definitely not need based. We don’t qualify for anything. It was a merit based scholarship, for all four years, for $12,000/year. I mean, hardly going to cover all of it, but it was still unexpected.

The mail is due at 4:00. We are biting nails. I can’t open it anyway, it’s for my daughter, who is at crew practice, but at least I’ll know if it’s a big envelope or small.

Do you think all decisions come out together or are they going to send the accepted and the not accepted students separately?! im so worried because i haven’t heard back from them and i am from NYC! do you think they only mailed out the big envelopes??

Add me to the list… Rejected from all of my top choice colleges last week.
SLC is killing me with this wait. Our mail usually comes at around 5 p.m. and I don’t know which to dread more - finding no letter from SLC at all, or a thin one. Probably the latter, but the former is terrible by itself.
Question to those who were awarded scholarships and good financial aid: If the awarded money were merit-based, may I ask which aspect of your application that they may have focused on? Essay? Standardized testing score? GPA? Thanks.

I certainly hope not… It seems to me that SLC may have sent out the letters to west coast applicants first, then moved in order to the east as an attempt to see that everyone in the states receives their letters at around the same time. It’s just a theory, though…

My heart goes out to everyone who’s still waiting. My S went through a number of disappointments last week and the final wait for SLC was excruciating. I can only imagine how he would feel if he were still waiting…

In the acceptance letter, they alluded to the content of his essay in a handwritten note at the bottom of the letter. Beyond that, I suspect scholarships are awarded based on a number of factors.

I’m in California and I am still awaiting my letter. I’m still in school as it is 1:45 here, and the mail doesn’t come in until 3:00, but as of now, it can be assumed that most west coast applicants have NOT received letters. Sources tell me that they started sending out acceptances/rejections yesterday, on the 1st, but it seems that people have received them before that. I’m slightly worried, but also excited–I hope you are all greeted with good news!!

Just got the Big Envelope here in Delaware, with a personalized note on the acceptance letter. My dd was awarded a Presidential merit award too which is nice.

We put the award on our college spread sheet though and of all the schools my dd was accepted to (9), Sarah Lawrence turned out to be most expensive. The tuition, room and board and fees were all higher than anywhere else, so even with the aid, my dd won’t be attending.

Mom just called–one big envelope from SLC! I’m in California (San Diego, to be specific), so it seems most letters will be received today! Good luck, everyone! I’m so excited, class of 2016!!!

I received my acceptance package in the mail just now here in Maryland. Finally, the wait is over!
I was also pleasantly surprised with the amount of financial aid that I was awarded. Don’t lose hope, I’m sure SLC will finish mailing out the letters by Wednesday or so.
Good luck to everyone else who is still waiting!

No big envelope here in FL I wonder if this means rejection or wait listed. She has already been accepted to 4 schools and wait listed at one, Marist, and has a great offer from Rollins College, so she is good but this was her top pick.

@lotus815: I live in a suburb of Boston and I received my acceptance letter today in the mail, despite the fact that it had the wrong address on it.

@lotus: I have not yet heard of many people who have been denied. It looks like a lot of positive results have been coming in! SLC is very holistic in its admissions process, so there’s no reason to worry. I’m sure you will get your letter soon, and rest assured that no matter what it is, you’ll find a way to succeed in the long run. Best of luck!!!
