UR Admissions: Is there any chance the Regular Decision students will hear back before April 1? I no some of the other schools I applied to are releasing the decisions as they make them.....??

UR Admissions, that would be a dream come true! Sounds like a GREAT idea!!

Sorry gang. No can do. For a lot of reasons that I won't go into here. You will hear BY April 1. It is usually a few days before that but we tell you April 1 so you won't be freaking out on March 25.

To UR Admissions: Most schools have very distinct looking acceptance letters and rather so-so rejection letters. Would you be wonderful and describe what an acceptance letter will look like from UR so that we know when the mailman starts walking up the sidewalk? Just for fun...thanks!

Waves, last year the acceptance letters were in big 8x11 cardboard priority mail envelope type things. And I'm pretty sure the rejection letters were just in a normal white envelope. That could change this year though.

Thank you for the info. My mailman knows that around the end of March, beginning of April I'll be waiting for him every day. He has already been told about envelope sizes and things to look for when he delivers. I don't know who will be happier when this whole process is over, him or me! Wish me luck!

Is it more difficult to get into Univ of Richmond regular decision vs early decision? Stats for acceptance history at my high school seem to suggest regular decision is much more difficult, is this the case or an anomoly with my high school? Replies/thoughts appreciated.

As a general rule (indeed, I don't know of any exceptions), ED admissions is ALWAYS less difficult, assuming that the student has a strong transcript after Junior Year; the open/honest colleges even so state publicly. But, if senior grades and/or test scores are needed to strengthen an app, RD could be a better bet for that individual.

BC is definitely an exception, their admissions team is very upfront about BC being much more difficult in early decision rounds than regular decision rounds.

I would confirm that we tend to be a little more generous in ED than in RD, but in the end, the profile of admits coming out of ED and RD is remarkably consistent. In individual cases, there are students who are admitted ED who might not have made it in RD every year, but overall it doesn't impact the class profile. Typically we're going to admit in ED if we'd have taken that student in RD the previous year, and since most years, the pool tends to get stronger each year, competing against "last year" works to almost everyone's advantage.

My post was specific for Early Decision, which is binding. One top 10 Unis that has publicly stated that ED admissions are a "few points" higher than RD; another top 10 that said that ED is a ~10 point boost over RD, all other things being equal. Then of course, colleges like Penn have leveraged ED to a whole new level.

EA is a different animal; there are several highly selective colleges (in addition to BC) that are more rigorous in EA vs. RD. But again, the main factor is whether the applicant needs senior a transcript (which likely includes more AP/IB courses) and/or higher test scores to strengthen the app.

UR Admissions, thanks for your very helpful reply.

UR Admissions:Are you able to estimate a decision release date yet?

are decisions released online or by mail only?

If you live in the United States, decisions are sent only by postal mail. If you live outside the United States, decisions go by e-mail. We’re working hard to get almost 8000decisions out as soon as we can right now. You should see the stationary going through the folding machines and all the letters being stuffed. It is a sight to behold. They will not be mailed until the end of next week at the earliest. Believe it or not it does take that long to get them all together, triple-checked to be sure there is a letter for every person and that it is the right letter that we mean to be sending, and that it also includes any financial aid information as well.

I know you are all anxious and excited. We’re every bit as anxious to see the mail truck roll out of here with them in tow, believe me. Hang in there! I’m glad you are all so excited about the prospect of becoming a Spider!

Will Richmond scholars be notified about the award at the same time as the rest of RD?
Thanks!

Richmond Scholars are notified one at a time, so it takes a little longer to get all those decisions out. But students who are visiting as finalists (starting today!) should hear from us next week with a decision on the scholarship. We hope you have a great visit, and let us know if there is anything at all we can do to help you get all your questions answered while you are here.

When did the decisions hit the mail?

Most were mailed yesterday. Internationals are still in the process of being e-mailed. Folks should be hearing soon, but remember that we don’t control the USPS so there will be variation in when the letters reach their destinations.

The Richmond Scholar decisions are also in process. I’ll keep you posted!

UR Admissions: were the domestic decisions sent by first class or Priority mail?
