UR admissions: if a child is at boarding school, do you mail the letter there or to the home address? She has rec'd some letters at home and some at school, and she is on spring break for one more week... so the wait will be long if mailed to school! Thanks.

investor--it depends how the student gave us their information on the application. We use whatever they gave us for the mailing address, rather than the permanent address. But some boarding students give us their home address as the mailing address rather than the boarding school, so I don't know what your student did. . . sorry about that! (I bet your student doesn't even remember which he or she chose.)

We mail admits priority mail and everything else first class. That said, we can detect no rhyme nor reason in the postal service's delivery system. We've had two applicants who live on the same cul-de-sac receive something first class before the one who receives the priority, so we never know exactly how it will unfold once it hits the USPS.

Thanks to everyone for patience.

^^Nice. Priority means (ahem) guaranteed 2-3 days to the west coast (for good news). Of course, I'm guessing Richmond could obtain a lot of refunds from USPS when Priority takes longer, and it does!. :)

Even using priority, you will hear from us before April 1, which is our promised notification date. We can not control the way the USPS does its job.

Using first class for the big letters would take more processing time for our staff because the envelopes are a different matter to deal with and can't be sealed by a postage machine. If we used first class, we'd have to delay putting them in the mail by several days. I know that it is hard to understand when you aren't accustomed to the logistics of stuffing this many envelopes and needing to do so with 100% accuracy, but it isn't as easy as perhaps it might look.

We know you are anxious. You might be surprised to learn that we're pretty wiped out right now too. Thanks for giving me a break and holding the sarcasm.

URA:

In a former life, I attended a college which let seniors participate in admissions for the next year's class. While at first it was quite an honor, after the first committee meeting, I was thinking that all-nighters (to crank out a 10 page paper) seemed rather tame, by comparison. And, this was at a big public Uni, so it was more of a numbers game. I can't imagine what admissions is like at at LAC.

A priority envelope from Richmond just landed in our mail box. We live in the suburbs of Boston.

Congrats to Ratzer!

Bluebayou--thanks for that point of view. There are many great and fun things about this work, but there are also great challenges--tactical and emotional. This time of year is not at all fun for us.

USPS priority envelope in CT. Thanks UR Admissions.

Yay! I just got my priority mail!! Thank you!!! :-D

Priority envelope arrived today, very nice financial package as well. Some tough decisions and great choices....

Congratulations to you all!

I just got a private message asking about the SAT score cut-off for the Presidential Scholarships was so I figured more people are wondering the same thing.

We did NOT just run a descending order spreadsheet by SAT and award Presidentials to those on the top of the list. We used a holistic process that incorporated consideration of grades, difficulty of curriculum, test scores and personal qualities. These scholarships were offered to students at the tip-top of a very holistic scale. There were many more truly outstanding students than there were scholarship funds available. I'm very sorry to those out there who are disappointed.
