What is the best way to go? Isn't the application pool smaller when applying EA? Does UGA take high school scores from first semester junior year?

It's smaller, but it isn't necessarily any easier...unless you have amazing stats. They look at your entire high school transcript, from the beginning of your freshman year to the end of your junior year (and possibly the first semester of senior year if you don't get admitted EA).

EA!

you won't have to write essays
(unless you get deferred)

For someone with average stats, what is the best way to go?

I would just do EA and then Regular if you dont get in. There isnt really any downside to applying EA that I know of.

good 2 know. I just heard that at some schools if you're rejected EA, then you can't do RD.

Nope, not the case with UGA. I'd definitely say apply EA, see what happens, and go from there. :)

I'd have to agree. The EA application is much easier, less stressful, and you find out your decision roughly two months in advance (for the most part)! Unless you like being tortured or really really patient, I would advise against not doing EA.

right now i'm a sophomore. I got 1 d when I was a freshman, but havve been making A's and B's since and am taking all honors and AP classes. My GPA will be pretty high by the end of my Junior year. Do you think that if I apply early decision I'll get in?

There is no way to know that right now without knowing your class rank (which will change) and your SAT scores.

13blueflame, ONE D will probably not kill you at all. Just get all As and Bs your entire time in High School and you should be fine. UGA seems to give grace periods to students, especially in Freshman year.

You'll do fine come 2008! Don't worry about it now- just keep working hard!
