I want to go to UMD college park and I just want to think ahead of time which would be better for me? Like I’m also taking some classes at HCC for a dual credit.
It really depends. Early Decision is binding, so if you get accepted ED, then you must go there. I’d say only apply ED if you really, really want to go there (if you’re 100% sure). You can only apply to one college ED, and if you choose to apply ED, and get accepted, you won’t be able to apply or think about going to other colleges. Early Action is non-binding, and you’ll get a decision sooner. You can apply to more than one school EA. If you aren’t accepted EA, you still may have a chance at getting accepted RD. Applying Regular Decision is non-binding, but you typically won’t receive a decision until the spring. I’d say only apply to ED if you know toy don’t want to go to any other college other than UMD. Apply to EA if you feel as if you are strong enough as it is (you don’t need to retake the ACT or SAT or wait until your 1st semester grades come out to make you look more competitive). If you apply EA, you have a higher chance of acceptance. You should apply RD if you need the fall of your senior to make improvements to your application (test scores and grades) or don’t want to rush sending your application in. It ultimately depends on your preferences.
It doesn’t look like UMD has ED. https://www.admissions.umd.edu/apply/ApplicationDeadlines.php EA is good if you don’t need to bring your grades up.
@mdgirl234 - UMD College does not have ED, it only has a Priority Deadline (Nov 1) and RD (Jan 1). I strongly encourage you to apply by the Priority Deadline. That way, you will automatically be considered for Merit Scholarships and Special Programs (Honors/Scholars). RD applicants are NOT considered for either. Good Luck.
Thank you all very much!
