We are choosing classes for next year. She is currently a junior and in the science and math subjects she is in AP Chemistry., and precalc. 100 average across all her subjects. She doesnt love science and will not major in it in college. By the time she will graduate HS she will have taken plenty of AP history, and AP English classes. That is more her love. My question is which class will colleges like to see better as a senior? Take AP Envi science or Regular Physics? She somewhat prefers AP Envi Sci but has a feeling colleges like to see the sequence of bio (which she took already), chem, physics. I tend to think college prefers to see physics as well. Does it look like she skimped if she does AP Envi Sci and doesnt do Physics?
The feeling is correct.
Yes. And if offered, she should opt for Honors Physics or AP Physics 1
Thanks for that reply. I appreciate the advice about continuing the honors path by taking honors physics but i will honor her wish to not stretch her to that point. Her extra curriculars are time consuming and require a great deal of effort.
How are the teachers for both classes? Our high school had an exceptionally good AP Environmental Science teacher, and it was one of my son’s favorite classes, but he also had AP Physics.
If there’s any chance she may want to major in a technical field (engineering, science, health-related majors, technology, etc.) the colleges will require a high school physics class. If not, she could take APES, in my opinion.
It also depends on the colleges you’re applying to. They will look at course rigor when making admission decisions. Her high school counselor should be able to offer advice if you know which colleges she’ll be applying to.
