regular vs. AP classes

what is more impressive,

a 3.9/4.0 GPA with only 2 honors classes
or
a 3.8/4.0 with all AP/honors classes

The second one. You’ve challenged yourself, and in the end, GPA isn’t everything.

^Agreed. Colleges like to see that you’ve challenged yourself.

I hate these sorts of questions. You’ll rarely get a straight answer from an adcom; instead, they’ll say, “The A in the AP class, of course,” and smile. Cheeky, but with tens of thousands of applicants, top schools can afford to pick students who have high GPAs and a challenging courseload, not one or the other.

^But the difference between a 3.8 and a 3.9 is negligible at most…

Stupid thread.
A .1 difference gives the massive edge to the AP schedule. If it was a full point of a difference, that’d be something. A 3.9 in on-level classes is honestly awful anyway, they are so completely designed for the lowest common denominator it’s nearly impossible to not get an A. Having a couple honors classes isn’t impressive at all either.
