Hi, im a sophomore in high school and am a little bit worried. I would like to get into a good computer science school, like U of I in Champagne, and for that a good mathimatical background is expected. I am good at math, I know it. I currently have a 95 in algebra 2. However, its not honors. My 8th grade math teacher recommended me for regular rather than honors, and I worry that this will hurt me in the long run, as i cant do anything about my path. How important is it to take honors math classes rather than regular ones if i want to succeed in computer science/ software engineering? By the way, I do take honors science classes.
Does your school not let you go from regular classes to honors one’s even if you get an A? If so try talking to your counselor and asking him/her if you could be placed in honors math classes next year.
You should definitely try asking to be placed in honors for the second semester or simply take honors pre-calc class upcoming year. It is very recommended and important that you get in the path of honors and higher math class for field you want.
