yeah uclari, can you cough up some more info for us? =p i got into dykstra and was wondering how it is, your point of view.

No, I'll let you guys go and find out for yourselves. It's one of those "rites of passage," so to speak.

:D

P.S. Dykstra itself is ghetto fab. Seriously. One of the best halls to live in.

hey uclari, so im gonna be living in dykstra, and i have mixed opinions. ppl say its probably the best hall since its so social, but they say the living premises are awful.

what would you say to an incoming freshman about what to expect, who will be living in a triple in dykstra this fall?

I was wondering if De Neve Plaza was pronounced "De NEV" or "De NEEV".

Thanks!!

You'll quickly find that a good number of UCLA students are, for a lack of a better way to say it, brats. Yes, Dykstra is old. No, it doesn't offer A/C or all the comforts of De Neve or the new halls.

Oh well.

It's fun, it's a place to sleep, it's a place to study, and it has history. What else do you need?

As long as you don't preoccupy yourself with whining about how "this sucks" or "that's so sooooo unfair!" you'll have a blast.

Actually, it's pronounced "Zer Gutenstein."

No? Okay, fine. It's a short vowel, so "De NEV." Or at least that seems to be the consensus amongst everyone on-campus...

uclari,

what do most people bring to their dorms? how much clothing/shoes? do most ppl have tv's/game consoles or what do they bring for entertainment and as necessities?

I'm not most people, but...

I brought around a week and a half's worth of clothing. Three pairs of shoes (sneakers, sandals, dress shoes). I also had my suit for professional functions.

Most people have a TV. Many bring game systems. My roommates and I had an X-Box, GameCube, PS2, and 6.1 digital surround (courtesy of me, of course...) This was in Saxon though...hah.

But yeah, if you can find room for it, bring a TV and DVD player. You'll be loved for it.

you only brought a week and a half's worth of clothing?? How the heck do you survive on that....

laundry, I suppose

Well...umm...

DUH! :p

no, I mean don't you get tired of wearing the same clothes week after week?

you mean week and a half after week and a half

Well, college isn't high school so you won't see me around wearing my high heels and "fancy" shirts. I'm making the transition to lounge wear!

Eh. I was in school to study, not to have a fashion show. :P

I got a triple in Rieber Hall for next year... Will it be mostly freshmen in Rieber next year? Or will a lot of upperclassmen be living there since Sproul closed?

hows the food in rieber? i got a triple rieber too. i picked res. hall over plaza because its more social, but i hope its worth it.
