Reject Life :'(

Hi Guys,

UC’s are all coming out and… I just got rejected by UCSB. Also rejected by UCSD, UCLA and waitlisted by Davis. So far I only got into UCSC, SJSU, and Cal Poly SLO for CS (UC GPA: 3.94, ACT: 33). I’m so disappointed. I thought my essays were written pretty well, I had tons of extracurriculars, and I thought at least one of the upper tier UC’s would at least waitlist me. It sucks so much right now. Sigh. I’m worried that maybe I screwed up on my application in some way.

I’m just waiting on Irvine and Berkeley. For Berkeley I did L&S and was asked to submit two letters of recommendation. Not much hope.

Any advice, thoughts?

:frowning:

My advice would be:

  1. Don’t let a college admission officer who never met you determine your self worth.
  2. Sulk for a day or two if you need to.
  3. Recognize that your college experience will, in large part, be whatever you make it.
  4. Go off to a college you have been accepted into with a proud and positive attitude-- recognize that you can have a great experience and get wherever you want to go in life from any of these schools.
  5. Think about how many people in this world would give almost anything to have your opportunities.

where are u from? I’m surprised u got rejected. If ure in high school, I suggest going to CC for 2 years and transfer as a junior if berkeley and irvine doesn’t go well. I’m really surprised. You have great stats

SLO is a solid school for CS major. You can find out from this link: https://careers.calpoly.edu/search.php

Same experience here too, I start to question whether or not all the hardwork was even worth it, considering I will be attending the same college as someone who didn’t work as hard. Don’t mean to sound negative but I didn’t get any good news which makes it very hard to be positive. GL to us all I guess!

Seriously, slo was a tough admit for CS. Go, feel proud to have me admitted.

Everything will work out okay! I know it’s tough to be optimistic when things don’t go how you thought they would.

Not getting into certain schools doesn’t make you and less of a person. You’re clearly a strong student and you’ll be successful wherever you end up- at a place that really wants and appreciates you! Might not be at a school you thought you’d go to, but hey, life has some sort of reason. You’ll look back and laugh that you were worried/upset. Good people are everywhere, and you can find happiness in all sorts of unexpected places. Let us all know what happens with your last two schools.

Sending hugs from the Midwest. : )

The hard work in high school will help you when you get to university. You will be better prepared than the student sitting next to you who got in with lower grades, and of course much better off than the person sitting at home who didn’t get in.

I agree with post #1, sulk for a day or two, then get on with life. You never know what will happen, but there will be better days.

By the way, many years ago I got into UCSC but couldn’t go because I couldn’t afford it. In the end it worked out (but not at UCSC).

SLO has about a 8-10% acceptance rate for CS which is comparable to UCLA/UCB so you should be proud that you were accepted.

Just remember where you go for Undergrad will not define, it is what you do with the opportunities you are given.
