rejected after being accepted?

Hey guys,

Have any of u heard people who got accepted into seas, but had their offers rescinded because of poor spring semester performances? I don't think its happening to me, but i'm worried thta it might.

bump.............

i'm sure it's happened before. just try and keep your grades in the B range and you should be safe.

yes I've heard of a guy but he dropped all his IB classes after getting early admissions to Columbia. So just keep up the classes, get relatively normal grades, I'm sure Bs are fine...

yeaaaaa... about that... might get a C in latin...

one c won't kill you. plus latin can be really hard.

That's good to hear... yeah latin is so tough with my teacher. Freshman year in our class we had 30 kids taking it. It got so hard that in our senior year only 8 people stayed. And its the same with every latin class so far. Its that brutal.

Not to mention I'm a SEAS kid... surely they won't rescind my acceptance due to a C in latin right?

im like 90% sure. plus your in SEAS not CC so its better that youre getting a possible C in a humanities and not a math/science.

gulps at my calc grade ...

at least the term just started... still possible to get it back to an A.

thanks, guys....but if u really do dismally, do they put u on a sort of probation or reject u straight away? Coz it's kinda sad if u'll have to stay at home for another year, because of a sad performance.....and u might never get into a good college again.

Wow... that just put me in a whole other mood. Thanks abc. lol

I've said this a million times -- don't worry about it. Nobody gets their acceptances rescinded. You've got to get multiple C's for them to even think about it.

Columbia... You've been a big help and I really appreciate all you've told us, but witht his topic I've got to question you. No offense.

How do you know no one gets acceptances recinded? Do you work in the admission office? I mean just because you didn't get your acceptance recinded doesn't mean we won't.

Again, no offense meant.

In all honesty Yapsuper, you're starting to get annoying. You got one C. Life goes on. You have not discredited your admission to Columbia.

If you fail a class or commit a felony we can continue this line of conversation, but as of now you're just being melodramatic. Lighten up.

I've never heard about anyone who got theirs rescinded. I don't know anyone else who has heard about anyone else who has so.

People get put on probation if they do glaringly bad. The only case I know is a kid who managed to fail is english class (he had a tough quarter), and CU put him on probation coming in. That basically means your grades have to be above a certain level (B?) that semester to stay in Columbia. It's the same rule that applies to people who F* up while at Columbia really.

Probation at Columbia means you have to keep a 2.0. No big deal.

Probation is a little worse than that (in the College, at least). It's not a punishment per se, but they do want to keep an eye on you to ensure you're making satisfactory progress towards a degree, so they'll require you to meet with your dean on a regular basis, try to talk to you about your classes and help you formulate a plan to get your grades up, and yada yada. The catch, though, is I believe probation might interfere with some financial aid packages. If you're getting anything remotely merit-based, including a John Jay scholarship or some sort of outside award, that might be endangered. Also, if you want to apply to grad school, I'd have to assume your transcript would indicate that you'd been on academic probation at one point.
