Hey guys, I graduated High School this June. I applied mainly applied to UC's and some privates. I got rejected from all of them because I applied to their engineer school, and my grade's weren't to their expectations. Im going to a Community College currently and I only got one class because of the high impact of students. Can I apply to low end UC's and Cal states as a new incoming student with college credit? Im thinking of still attending CC to get as much classes as possible and apply to the colleges rather than transferring because of the high amount of students and other issues. Is that a possibility? I know I would lose a year but Im thinking of taking as many classes as possible within the year before the next school year to get somewhat ahead. Would that be something recommendable? Rather than transferring and possibly taking longer to transfer?

I believe for some UC’s you have to be a sophomore with a certain range of credits to transfer in. Once you have a designated number of credits you are a transfer and not a “new” ( freshman) student.

You cannot apply to UCs or Cal States as a freshman. You are now a transfer student.

If you got rejected from the UCs before as a freshman, they’re not going to suddenly flip around and accept you as a freshman. The good news is that they take a LOT of CC transfer students, by state law. If you complete your IGETC UC transfer curriculum and maintain a certain GPA, you can actually be guaranteed admission to some UC schools. Talk to your transfer center and counseling staff.
