I applied to the University of Oregon Medieval Studies program, and was rejected on early decision. I was wondering if the issue was just because of a limited number of slots or if there was a red flag that I should avoid. I'm planning on calling the admissions office but I thought that I would post on here first and see if anyone can help me out. Here's some information
Current Residency: Texas
SAT: Critical Reading 710 Math: 680 Writing: 630
GPA (unweighted): 2.84 (I know that's terrible but my grade trend is good. Not including freshman year I have a 3.4 GPA) On the UO Alternate admissions chart my SAT scores are much higher than the scores they have posted for my GPA
I have a heavy senior course load with many AP classes, the rest of my years are similar.
3 years in JROTC, 1 year as the Color Guard Cadet Commander, and lots of community service through that
Class Rank: 375/692
I've been told that my essay I submitted was good and well written, and I know I have good letters of recommendation. Do you think I have a shot with a broader program or going in as undecided for regular decision? UO has been my dream school for as long as I can remember, any help is appreciated!

Rejected applicants for an ED program are not re-considered normally. If anyone to call, it would be the general college admissions office.

Frankly, you shouldn’t have applied ED in order to let this past semester’s grades pull up your GPA.

According to the Common Data Set ([Common Data Set | Office of Institutional Research](Common Data Set | Office of Institutional Research)) Class Rigor and GPA are the most important and only 6% of admitted students have <3.0. Since you don’t have pulling guard listed as an EC I agree with T26 you should probably have waited for your grades to come in before applying.

What is your weighted GPA?

* UO has been my dream school for as long as I can remember, any help is appreciated! *

You’re OOS for UO. Would your parents pay the high OOS costs? If not, then…

Unfortunately, because of your strong SAT scores, the school is likely assuming that you’re lazy and don’t do assignments.

My weighted GPA is listed as the same according to my counselors, I’m not sure why. And yes, my parents agreed to pay the high OOS tuition because they did it for my sister and my father is an alum.

Should I just move on and see if I want to transfer next year then?

Just to clarify, UO does not have ED. It has rolling admissions with early notification which is non binding. If you were rejected, then you cannot apply again.

I called them and it turns out my GPA is fine, it was actually a problem with my transcript. I’m going to send them a new one when school starts back up and they said they will re-evaluate.
