I am just curious about this....my friend applied to Brown, which is not need blind for international students, and she was an international living in the US. A very good lacrosse player that was recruited by teh school, she claims that she got rejected because she was an international requesting lots of aid? Does this happen a lot, to me it doesn't seem fair at all.......because it goes against everything these top schools claim about financial aid.....I have the same situation as her so it would be good to get some info

also more importantly...is it more competitve to apply as an international than domestic?

It is definitely more competitive to apply as an international (and applying as an international applying for FA is even more competitive than that), especially if you come from over-represented regions (East/SE Asia, the Indian subcontinent). Your friend might very well have been right - a rejection due to financial reasons is very common among international students.

Only specific schools (HYPM+Dartmouth+Amherst+Williams+Swathmore) are “need-blind” to internationals - mainly because providing aid for internationals are just that much more expensive since we don’t qualify for any federal financial aid (Pell Grants and the like).

I wish they would reject stating ‘Rejected due to financial reasons’… Then I could at least take that letter and apply for 100% scholarships in my country, but until then - I can’t :P
