So recently, I found out I was rejected from Cal :(, but I think it may have been because I applied for EECS (Heh, I was ambitious). So now, I am considering appealing, but I'm not sure what major I should appeal for. I definitely want to do engineering, but I don't know if I would have a better chance at appealing for something else, perhaps in L&S and then switching. Thanks for your help, as Berkeley has always been my dream school and I've been really working hard to achieve my goal, but so far things have not been going well :(.

BTW, here are my stats:
4.0 UW GPA
2140 SAT I (650CR, 790M, 700W)
SAT II - 800 Bio E, 760 Math 2
EC: A few clubs at my school, and a few competitions here and there
Work: Tutoring at Kumon for about 2 years now.
Ethnicity: Chinese
Location: California

Also, do you think I have any chances of getting accepted through appealing at all?

Appeals based on switching to a different major are ignored. Cal looks for new and compelling information, although typically not senior grades or new ECs. Something major that happened to you earlier but was not in the application or something major that happened after the application was filed that shows you would be a more appealing candidate now.

Publish a book, win an exclusive national award, have been relocated from New Orleans after Katrina where the process hurt your early HS grades but hadn’t mentioned it in the application (if your later and senior grades are markedly better) - those are the kinds of things that power the most successful appeals.

Appeals that restate the same information and ask them if they made a mistake, or that just show more of the same through similar senior year grades to the prior record, are the most likely to be rejected.

About 10% of appeals get an admission offer, so not impossible to prevail, but put together an intelligent case to admissions to improve your chances. They set aside space for appeals, they WILL pick a number from the appeals to admit - make your case stand out to be in the group they select.

Haha, odyssey, I really wish I could. Anyway, I’ve decided that I am going to appeal, and so I’m wondering if I even have a decent shot at getting in for EECS?

Good luck with your appeal I’m appealing too. I hope we both make it xD However, it should be noted that to win an appeal, you must give new and compelling evidence why they should admit you, not just because you’re changing your major. That won’t help.
