UCSD was and still is my first choice college, but I wasn't offered admission. I know that admit rates for appeals is extremely low and all UCs encourage you to not appeal, but I want to go to SD desperately.

I've gotten into my back-up school, Davis, but I really can't imagine myself there. As an Asian-American, I know UCs are mindful of 'diversity' but with so many asians there already, it's not exactly to my advantage.

GPA : 3.6
SAT I: 2030
ACT: 30
AP scores: two 5s and one 4
Math II :680

my scores aren't the best, but I'm very well rounded (4 years Varsity Badminton, Captain this year, a diversity club founder and community service leader for the local library)

I applied as a Chinese major (and it wasn't even so I could get in easier! I really want to major in Chinese!) and my first choice was Eleanor Roosevelt College. Any suggestions? Anyone else in the same boat? I read the threads and it seems like high GPAs didn't get you anywhere, nor did high test scores!

I was rejected too. Does anybody know what a acceptance rate for an appeal is? Same as you, UCSD was my first choice...damn... I don't know if I will appeal yet, but I'll keep the option open.

Does anybody have any idea how they choose their applicants?

I have a friend with no extra curricular, 3.5 gpa weighted, and 1900 sat and a horrible essay(it sounded like she hated her parents) that got in while I have some extra curricular, 4.1 gpa weighted, 1600 sat, 28 act and I got rejected.
My major was Undeclared Sciences. Her major was just Undeclared.

I'd like to appeal but I'm not sure what to say. If anybody has any info/tips on appealing or how they choose their applicants please post. UCSD was my first choice and now I'm really angry that so many other applicants that aren't as qualified as me got in.

Appeals are chosen based on significant new information that was not available at the time of application. So I guess if you won a state or national award, got straight A's senior year, or forgot to include something in your application, that would qualify. I would not count on a successful appeal if your only argument is that you deserve a second look, but it doesn't hurt to try.

I read somewhere that suggested to call the University that you were rejected from and talk to the admissions office asking them what was unsatisfactory about your application. Would UC's actually answer that or disregard it?

i've had friends who tried to appeal but theres only 1 person i know who has actually succeeded in getting admitted after appealing. she appealed and discovered the ucsd made a mistake in reviewing her application and ultimately accepted her.
