Rejected by all the ivies and waitlisted by Cornell. Is there any hope?

You can still go to UC Berkley or other top universities…:)

OP: Remember this… where one door closes a window will open. You are a very good student and although it may not seem like you are being rewarded for all your hard work and effort, it doesn’t mean that your future will not be promising. As a matter of fact, you may be thankful for unaswered prayers, someday. I think you will find that your future will be bright and someday when you look back to this time you may be pleasantly surprised to find that you are very happy with the way things turned out. Sometimes, when there are so many arrows pointing you in one direction, its best to walk that path. You’re gonna do great in your college of choice. Once you choose the school that you will attend, embrace it, love it and enjoy it. These are truly the best 4 years of your life…:)

Berkeley is a great school. Pick up the pieces, dust yourself off, and be proud to go to the best public university in the US. As the Harvard rejection email I received said,

“We wish it were possible for us to admit more of our fine applicants, and we understand how difficult the college application process can be for students and their families. While the Committee conducted its deliberations with the utmost care, we know that no one can predict with certainty what an individual will accomplish during college or beyond. Past experience suggests that the particular college a student attends is far less important than what the student does to develop his or her strengths and talents over the next four years.”

This is a terrible attitude to have. Top students at Berkeley and CMU have a ton of doors open to them.
This obsession you have with getting into a “top 10” school is extremely unhealthy and will have a detrimental effect on the rest of your career. The fact that you’re Indian just makes it that much worse.

I don’t know how being Indian has anything to do with it, but anyway I’m not sure yet. I’m just going to visit these schools, and see what happens. I realized I was over confident, and I hope other students who are applying to ivies see my example and learn from it.

Hey!
I was wondering if someone could tell me what this meant: I got rejected by HYP, waitlisted by MIT, Columbia, Brown, UChicago and Dartmouth, and accepted by Duke, NU & Middlebury. I am confused. I mean I don’t understand whether I was not good enough for the ivys or what. Can this be a possibility that I was not good enough for HYP but Brown/Columbia/Dartmouth liked me but thought that I wouldn’t attend because I would have chosen not to attend that school and it would have effected their yield?

What were your stats?

@azndude3194- spot on

@Foodlover001- Berkeley may not be a sure thing for the OP. Just saying.

^I got into Berkeley.

I think you will come down to earth when you go to any of the above schools. There are BRILLIANT people in ALL of them.

What defines top 10? A lot of people who get into HYPMS…aren’t necessarily happy. Because you are defining your happiness and success in life by a college name.

Honestly, where I work, I pass by my parking lot with car decals ‘stanford alumni’, ‘cal bear’, ‘Carnegie’, ‘Cornell’ everyday. And then we have our VP who is some state college (top 100 barely). Understand you are disappointed and so are a lot of people but you will find that you are not alone when you go to CMU or Berkeley or UCLA.

Going to necro this just to reply to Phantasmagoric and point out that reductive arguments like his essentially assume that the Ivy League is above criticism…

^ you brought this post up to make a pointless criticism with no basis? I never implied or assumed that the Ivies are above criticism (and if you’ve seen my posts on other forums, you’d find I have a bit of criticism for many Ivies).

I said:

If the OP had been rejected by other schools, I’d have mentioned them in my post - but all I know, from the thread title, is that the OP wasn’t accepted the Ivies/Stanford.

Good job jumping to conclusions ;)
