1500 SAT
4.92 weighted GPA (101.91 avg)
Hardest possible coursework except I missed one AP class I could have taken because I didn’t know it existed.
My ECs are subpar (assume this is the reason I got rejected). I play basketball which takes up a ton of time at my school (we win state almost every year). I have around 90 hours of service with like 40 at two separate places.
I’m a national merit finalist from Mississippi.
Essay for Common App was like 9/10
Essays for GT probably were as good (maybe like 6-7/10).
I didn’t really want to go to GT but the rejection makes me really nervous.
Do I have any chance at all at the following schools?
Duke
Vanderbilt
UNC Chapel Hill
Northwestern
Virginia
My essays for all those schools were better than for GT but I still don’t like my chances.

PS: I prefer honest bad news over lies of good news. I don’t mind someone telling me my chances are bad.
Also, my unweighted GPA is 4.00 and my class rank is 2 of 64. I go to a private school but it is in the best district in Mississippi. Also, I’m a white male.
Hi @cr_02 – one quick question – What major did you put down?
on the larger issue, it really really stings to be rejected outright. So you should let yourself feel bad about it for awhile…no reason to rush this. It doesn’t matter if you didn’t want to go there anyway, it still hurts.
On the remaining schools, you’re in the ballpark for all of them…so all you can really do is wait…at this point, there’s literally nothing left to do. Looking at your list, I believe you might get into 2 of the 5. (also, do you already have some acceptances?)
@SouthernHope Hey. I applied to Biomedical Engineering (which I assume is pretty competitive given its ranking). Everywhere else I applied in Biology.
I also applied to Ole Miss (state school), Baylor, and Illinois. I got into Illinois but won’t attend due to price. The costs at the other two universities will be cheap enough for me to attend very comfortably. I really want to try to go to one of the other places though.

You have a shot at any of these colleges but no one is a shooting in at that level of selectivity. I think you’ll for sure get into uva but Unc has strict guidelines about oos applicants so it’s impossible to predict.
@MYOS1634 Yeah I have safety schools like I mentioned above in a post. I just hope I can go to one of those more selective schools. Thanks for the help
