Rejected by UCLA

Damn, this is turning into the Econ Department rejects thread. But no worries, you guys seem to be really positive about things.

Good luck to u guys on getting into Berkeley.

being rejected though from LA, would chances for Berk be just as slim or harder?? (regarding econ major)

Rejected from UCLA with a 4.0 (soc major). I have all the required classes and everything. Now I’m terrified that UCB will reject me.

3.72 for Computer Science. That’s right, all the upper level Calculus’s and Physics. Basically all Engineering classes (Honestly, have you seen the list of required classes for CS?). From the supposedly “best” transfer school (SMC). Also have foreign language, living, and working experience. Ridiculous.

Are you guys living in LA or at least California? It feels like they’re not taking in many in-state or LA area students to collect more tuition or more dorm fees. Carnegie Mellon took my friend, and he got rejected by UCLA.

I’ve lost hope for California

I was rejected. Electrical Engineering, 3.91, all pre-reqs complete, no IGETC, and no TAP.
I guess I am pretty bummed, even though I don’t even wanna go to UCLA. Now I’m even more worried about my chances for Berkeley. Granted, if I don’t get into Berkeley (my no.1 choice), I won’t be too bummed out since I got into Cal Poly SLO (my no.2 choice).

hello everybody. I just got rejected from ucla today. My major is chemical engineering, my GPA is 4.0, I got straight A’s from all my classes at community college, already completed all requirements of ucla. I dont know why I didnt get in. I really disappointed because I could not believe that one of my friend, who has gpa of 3.8 got accepted from ucla and some people with gpa 3.5…what can I do now?? I cant focus on doing anything right now but CRYYYYYYYYY :(

Rejected

Prerequisites: all done except for Political Theory (last poli sci class needed, will finish this semester)

I was browsing the decisions thread and someone with pretty much the same academic stats and major as me got in but he had all the pre reqs and IGETC already completed… soo to future applicants, get all pre reqs and everything taken care of! Pretty sure thats what bit me.

Rejected

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!

econ major. 3.8. rejected.

No offense, and I’m really not trying to be mean here, but the majority of people that have posted their acceptances on here have a major like Philosophy or History…so I honestly can’t say I feel bad. Especially when alot of them have like a 3.5-3.6 GPA. Total Joke. Sorry to be mean but that’s the truth. If you’re majoring in art history you will pull a 4.0 easy in CC. Of course you’ll get in…

Last I recall, there’s no caste system that dictates what major you have to choose. It’s true that there are majors where some GPAs are easier to achieve but competition within those majors is relative. So even if 4.0s are common among art history majors as you say, they still have to compete with other art history majors who would also have 4.0s. Your devaluation of other people’s success in other majors has no logical basis. I’m sorry that one school decided that you weren’t competitive enough within your major and I wish you the best of luck in other schools, but I don’t think it’s appropriate to demean other people with completely different majors that had nothing to do with yours. If you believe so strongly regarding your theory, there’s nothing stopping you from applying to those same majors.

bravo belkster.

OMG zayat9 ! I agree, HOW DARE art history majors apply to UCs?

So do I. I am from SMC My gpa is 3.72 computer science and I got all the math and physics done. I think i will just go to UCSD…

Well now that I see how other Econ majors like me got rejected, I don’t feel that bad. On the acceptance thread, I haven’t seen that many Business Economics, and Economics majors who got accepted. Business Economics, and Economics are some of the most popular majors, and I think those some of those spots went to more OOS students because of the budget crisis. Or maybe there are just to many people in those majors to begin with. Maybe I’m just trying to rationalize what just happened. But in any case I wish all who got accepted or rejected the best of luck.

I have a friend in CA that was also rejected. He’s pretty upset because some other kids in his class got in. His mom is appealing the decision. I’m not sure if that will help, but I hope so for him. Maybe you could try to do the same? Does UCLA put people on a waitlist? I didn’t have the heart to ask my friend if they did or not. If they don’t, then maybe an appeal would at least give you a small chance!?!? Good luck to you.

Forget appealing. Call it pride or whatever but if you get rejected, that should be the end of it. (at least for me it is) I feel that you shouldn’t have to beg to go to a school like UCLA. It’s like when your trying to ask a girl out. If she rejects you MOVE on and chop it up as, it’s a lose on their part. Someone will accept you. For me it was UC Davis.

some people dream on going to schools like LA…if thats the case then i feel like appealing wouldn’t hurt, while the chances are extremely low, the chance is still there…this is nothing like asking someone out and getting rejecting, people have worked their asses off in HS or CC to have a chance at getting at a certain school…they have every reason to exhaust all options before settling for another UC. if UCLA and CAL were thorough in reviewing all their applications all of the time, then yeah i think one just has to accept that the school doesnt want them for whatever reason…but there have been instances where people got rejected because UCLA and Cal overlooked something in their applications.

^THATguy90
True that… CA born and raised here. Which major have you decided on for UCD? If Economics, why not UCSD?

Thank you!

Edit: It’s funny… I thought being CA born and rasied, and dirt poor would be to my advantage… hahaha!

Sometimes people are rejected from UCLA because the school has been informed that Cal is going to accept them. Don’t give up hope!

kissophelia - where are you getting this information from?
