I’ll keep this short. I was rejected at Vanderbilt and am wondering if this if indicative of the decisions that are probably awaiting me from other, more selective, universities. If it helps at all, I believe the reason for my rejection was my SAT which was a 2100. Thanks for the help.
Yes, it could be indicative. However, there’s always an element of random chance in the application process so though stronger applicants do have a lower chance of rejection, it still happens very often. Don’t base your prospects off of one college decision. There’s a reason it’s a big deal when someone gets into every ivy even though tens of thousands are accepted to at least one ivy.
Vanderbilt places a very high emphasis on test scores. Their average SATs trump that of most Ivies, if I’m not mistaken. I honestly feel that you’re more likely to get into a top 10 with a 2100 than Vanderbilt. I won’t say they’re not holistic, but their holism usually only applies AFTER you reach a certain threshold for test scores. I wouldn’t be too worried if you think the rest of your application, sans test scores, is solid. Good luck!
^I second that, I have a 2170 and got wait listed by Vanderbilt but got a likely letter from Duke (number 8 as the above poster noted about top 10) and got accepted today at Notre Dame
Vanderbilt has insane test score numbers, so don’t stress out about it. Their middle 50% for the SAT started off at around 750 for all 3 sections. For the ACT, their middle 50 was 33-35. These are insanely high numbers that you’ll only see at HYPSM and Columbia.
So in other words, don’t feel bad!
